The Truth About Flushing

I have a question about my bud, I noticed that this time with the drowning my buds seem to break down some from being solid and dense to a little squishy like and fluffy could this been cause of the drowning w/molasses? I have drowned 3 other plants and never had any of those buds gotten fluffy or squishy after drowning. This is somewhat different than just drowning with water only.
As you know I'm not experienced with the technique you are using all, but in regards to that part about flacidity... I'd bet good money the drowning solution is just really hypertonic compared to the plant cells - which would result in cells having their water drawn out and collapse (losing their rigidity). A lot like a piece of celery becomes flacid once cut from the plant if not preserved. Would make sense that you'd see that same effect manifest from the top down on the plant also if that's the case.

This is another awesome thread with awesome contributions from everyone. I truly love all of the out of the box thinkers gather in these threads. I'm one of those guys that likes to know how things work, not just that they do. Or because I said so. I like trying all of these things presented. I'm so obsessed with keeping an eye on my plants it's almost like I can spot an issue in an hour. My first grown taught me a lot. If it's backed by true science and it works I'm in. Especially, if it's low buck.

glad your enjoying my threads, most seem to want to buy in the BS and myths, but there is a small percentage of us here that do like the truth :)

I work in an industry full of BS and myths, lol. Advertising dollars get spent so you'll buy product. I know more about lights, plant life cycles, nutrients, composting on and on than anyone I know face to face simply because in the last 18 months I've read and tried some things. Hell the guys at work are asking me real hardcore gardening questions. It's funny to me because, if they only really knew. My biggest thing is wasting money. I don't mind spending it, but I'm done wasting it.

I agree... It's nice to have solid science backing methodolology rather than BS and propaganda. As growers, we should all embrace the "alternative" approaches because they work! And aren't we all kind of "alternative thinking" because of what our hobby is?

Pretty amazing thread here riddle and has certainly illuminated an aspect of growing I'm soon to be going through (for the first time no less). I just had a few questions regarding my particular medium and drowning it correctly.

My medium is rockwool slabs that were placed inside small 5x5 pots and placed on ebb and flow tables. During flooding the water only goes up a few inches letting the RW soak up the nutrient solution. In order to flood correctly can I place my pots inside larger non-holed pots filled with water (I want to eliminate the need to keep my pumps on 24/7 or even for extended periods of time)? Since RW is a medium that is supposed to be good for aerating the roots, should the water line go all the way up to the base of the plant to effectively remove all O2? When flooding the RW should I pre-flush the remaining nutrients out of the medium?

basically just cover em in water, I would not flush nutes but that is your choice

yeah i took this bullshit advice on a few plants last harvest. they have been curing for about three weeks. the bud looks and smells great, but when you smoke it there is a slight crackle and the ash does not go completely white. i even got complaints, and that is a first ever. i guess it is better to do what is good for you rather than take some idiots advice over the internet. i learned my lesson: stick to the basics and what works for you and take the self proclaimed "experts" advice with a grain of salt.

Instead of crying bullshit, you should look at your methodology? lots of us have done this with no problems, hell I've done it 3 different ways to compare results

this is funny as hell to me, you are in this as a "business" i presume and you are barely starting to figure this out, they are called cry babies i have to deal with them all the time i myself just stop dealing with them (and this is when i was flushing) altogether, i would have one guy crying about bullshit like that and have another (medical patient) telling me that it kicks the shit outta any dispensary product he has ever got and for half the price he was extremely happy. so take a "EXPERTS" advice and take what your cry baby customer says and tell him to shove it up his ass. you my friend have got shit twisted.

Lol, this is bullshit advice. I don't think you meant it as "advice" per se, did you riddle? I take it as education, like something you get out of a text book. Here's a piece of advice for you, kleenex is better at drying tears than TP

if you are that interested in making people happy you should be working at pizza hut, people eill be happier when you show up with there large pepperoni pizza.
maybe you have shitty customers or you have a shitty product and are used to people being unsatisfied when dealing with you. in all the years i have been doing this, this was the first time someone complained about my product and they were someone i have known for a long time. the only reason why i even mentioned that was because there was credence to what they were complaining about.

i think the main point is that there are multiple ways to grow this plant. most of these methods are conventional and thats why most conventional wisdom about growing applies. my mistake may have been that i changed a specific step which did not work with the rest of my steps.

you know what thats quite possible but highly unlikely (from the products standpoint) and for the customers every one i have known for 5+ years like i said in the beginning you are never going to make "everybody" happy and if you are that close with this person maybe your product/skills does suck, i am VERY comfortable saying my product is some of the best i have ever seen/smoked and had many MANY satisfied people on my end more so than the criers. but believe what you want my friend.

peace, love and happy growing

Thanks for the info riddle! I've always had dead and yellow leaves after I started flushing with pure water. I knew the plant was dying, it looked like fall in the grow room with dead leaves all over hell. This time is different as I'm using Sub's super soil mixture. I'm in the last weeks of growing (no yellow leaves) and I haven't used anything but molasass (small amount 1 -teaspoon 1.25 gals) in the last two weeks. Before that just water. My water trays overflow as I alway make it rain using about a 6.0 ph. Of course in earlier grows using ferts leaves were dying like crazy and when I saw this post it all made sense. My vanilla kush is ready so I'll take her and drown the piss out of her for 5 days in a dark closet and report back in a few weeks. Rep+ Thanks!

well come on people there is ALOT of shitty advice on this forum. It is one of the most popular weed forums on the net. this means trolls, nubs, and kids.

it probably wouldnt be a bad idea to take that grain of salt

about that crackle / black ash thing, i would like to know a solution to fixing that as well.

Proper curing is the solution, it is not nutes in the bud as so many feel but rather the unfermented sugars that cause this

You say '3 week cure'. But how many days did it take to become dry enough to put in jars? Bet you dry too fast not leaving enough moisture in the bud for proper fermentation to take place......

thats not the whole story. i harvested two plants, ones flushed and the other fed til cut, on 4/01 they have been both curing since 04/06 one crackle and the ash turns black the other does not and turn white. guess which was flushed. while the effects have diminished over the cure, there is still a discernible difference between the two. the cure is important, but it is one step in a longer more complicated process.
