Yemen and Syria are Killing their People, too

Maybe you should be the one taking care of your grandmother rather whining that someone else should do it.
yes, i will pay her mortgage, medical bills, food, and other expenses on top of my own with the help of the awesome wages i make thanks to reaganomics and the bush tax cuts that trickle down on me so abundantly.

or, i will let the 'ponzi scheme' that she invested into so recklessly her whole life take care of her.

again man, too easy. give me a challenge here.

how about a few examples of great nations that have a regressive tax system (or even just a non-progressive tax sysytem) or no public education system? how about a great nation that has a regressive tax AND no public education.

how about a great nation that has regressive taxation, no public education, AND no social safety net?

i'll be waiting.
Somalia is the only one I can think of that you will accept for an answer although I can think of other 'Nations" I think you should consider you won't because the others are not countries

no, i just want examples, doesn't have to be a nation i guess.

i just want regressive (or non-progressive or zero) taxation, no public education, and no social safety net.

Well I'm sorry your, or her, life has resulted in utter failure. But that does not give you the right to pull the rest of us down with you. If you are looking for a handout, I only help people that help themselves. Life is a journey and you make your own choices in life, some good some bad. You should be the one paying the price for your decisions, not me.

I think its funny how old people really think they can live on SS. SS was NEVER intended to be life support, it was only meant to be a helping hand. But somehow somewhere someone got it stuck in their mind that SS was like a big government pension that was going to take care of your every economic need and the Medicaid and Medicare were gonna help you live to 120 to enjoy spending all that money. I seriously know people who think like this, we all do. They are just counting the days until retirement, unfortunately most retire and realize that its not enough money, so they go back into the workforce and subsidize their own retirement and take a job away from a young person. So many folks that just can't see the future or prepare for it. They live paycheck to paycheck year after year and in the end have almost nothing to show for it.

earning anything less than 2 people's incomes is "utter failure" to you? how ironic is it that you make that statement and then accuse people like me of playing 'class warfare'?

i would not consider my standard of living to be luxurious, but i would not consider living within my means in the suburbs in a nice little house with a nice sized yard and all the creature comforts to be an "utter failure".

i guess unless i make not only enough money to take care of myself AS WELL AS my grandma and her $1,200 a month in medical costs alone (as well as provide for her decent living), i am an "utter failure".

wow. no class warfare there at all.

If you are looking for a handout, I only help people that help themselves. Life is a journey and you make your own choices in life, some good some bad. You should be the one paying the price for your decisions, not me.
so since everyone pays the price for their own decisions, should the slicked-back hair people on wall street cough up that million dollar bonus of taxpayer money to my grandma and her neighbors to make up for crashing their nest eggs?

i almost wish right now that bush had his way and privatized ss...that would mean no republican would sit in that office for a long time.

I know, it's all Bush's and Reagan's fault, poor you. You can blame everyone and your brother for your lot in life, but the truth is that it is your own doing. I've got you pegged, how many times have you said “that's not my job”, or bitched about a co-worker working too hard because it make you look bad? I'll bet you are just sitting there right now, got a cold one cracked and smoking a fat one. Instead of going to night school, or working on a resume. I'll bet you have never spent 20 hours on a cover letter or a 100 hour week preparing for a job interview so you could sound like you know what the hell you are talking about. No, you would rather sit there and complain about someone who has done all that because they make more money then you. Bottom line, you will get farther in life if you get off your ass and work for it rather then expecting someone to do it for you. And the best part is that you will feel good about yourself for doing it.

my lot in life?

you mean the one with which i am 100% satisfied?

no, that is my fault. but the policies of bush and reagan with respect to supply-side economics and tax cuts for the rich have not had their intended effect. doesn't take a genius to see that.

I'll bet you are just sitting there right now, got a cold one cracked and smoking a fat one.
got me nailed. can you see why i am so satisfied at 'my lot in life' as a poor, working schmuck?

i guess that makes me an utter failure.

I'll bet you have never spent 20 hours on a cover letter or a 100 hour week preparing for a job interview so you could sound like you know what the hell you are talking about.
20 hours on a letter that should be about one page?

14 hours a day, 7 days a week to prep for an interview?

sorry, i have higher priorities, liking spending time with my family, and having a cold beer every once in a while.

No, you would rather sit there and complain about someone who has done all that because they make more money then you.
where did i complain about someone making more money than i do?

if you want to go out and make some dough, that's great. more power to you.

listen, i can see you are some leftover from mccarthyism that has some unrelenting grudge against communists, or some douche that has fox news blaring at all times and consumes it like the gospel, or some other variant of bleeting fool which i would rather not suffer. but i did not ask to have a debate about the relative merits of my beliefs versus yours.

all i wanted was an example of a great nation from this time (2011, not 1911) that has regressive taxes, no public education, and no social safety net.

beardo was nice enough to oblige, why can't you simply stay on point and do the same? perhaps this is why it takes you 20 hours to write a cover letter that is traditionally 1 page or so.

And I gave you a perfect example of a great nation, you never mentioned that it had to be current. Then you proceeded to whine about how unfair it was and then related it to yourself and your family. I may have unloaded on you a bit, but I've read some of your other post on other threads and think it was appropriate.

if that was you unloading, i'll deal with that.

if anything, you have made clear that because i don't make enough money to support not only myself, but also an elderly person with exorbitant health care costs, i am an "utter failure".

nevermind that i enjoy my middle class lifestyle, if i am not rich, i am a problem. please excuse my continued whining about how much i enjoy my lifestyle.

so, any other great nations that meet the criteria? or you gonna keep dancing around that one?

edit - and how in the hell do you consider 1911 era US to be a great nation? we were not a superpower, we lived to age 50, grandma and grandpa ate cat food, and women (and most blacks) could not vote. how in the hell is that great by any metric?

the only correct statistic you state was the fact that women couldn't vote ( 19th amendment in Aug, 1920)

The murdering of peaceful protesters continues.. Looks like the USA has warned Syria over these killings but in response Syria put Tanks on the Streets.

What will the USA do? Will this be the line the USA cannot cross?

Emergency law has been lifted after over 30 years but 360 people murdered in a 5 week time frame.

in Syria.

Syria has sealed the boarder with Jordan.

Telephone and internet shut off as well as electricity to some areas.

Hundred thousand are protesting.

Good for them, I hope we keep our noses out of it. A really good revolution has way way more than 360 murders in 5 weeks, hell some days a good revolution will have thousands shot or hung in the streets.

bullshit.

average life expectancy was about 53 or so.

old people eating cat food is just my shorthand for 'they were shit out of luck'.

considering black women couldn't vote, and that they would comprise about 50% of the black population, it doesn't take an einstein to realize that the great number of black men effectively disenfranchised would push it over 50%....hence "most".

not 100% sure about superpower or not.

Since you took time to get my attention.

Do you think the reality of physics which includes Life and death cares about color or political preference?

It is a good question. I also wanted to share my thoughts with you.

Your life expectancy statistic is just that, life expectancy, not the same as average aged living. which was 56 BTW, not a huge increase but its worth noting. Canned Cat food wasn't on store shelves in America until 1933 ( It was first developed in France). FYI IF Stating statistics you might want to stick to factual ones, not euphemistic terms bandied about like some uncouth trollop. Most blacks means not counting women since you already made the distinction you can't use it a second time to make the argument lean in a false direction.

If old people saved their money back then they were ok and didn't need SS, they still had 20 years before FDR took their money that never devalued away. If they were stupid and did not save, well they were stuck with their own choices.

The term "superpower" wasn't coined until 1942, but even then the USA in 1911 was still a superpower by any means.
