FoxFarm ocean forest is all i use, with great results. I have used FF for multiple grows now with no problems. Some people like to add some perlite to it, just for better drainage. I have heard Happy frog is good also.

I always chuckle when people rant about ocean forest. go ahead and pay that much for soil, or, MAKE YOUR OWN ! it's fuckin simple, nutrient free, and most importantly, it's fuckin cheap. I don't know how your way of life differs from mine, but I like to save money, especially when you can just use your damn head for a lil bit and conjure up a bad-ass mix. so much cheaper...... go ahead buy that nice lookin blue bag of overpriced soil, I will continue to make my own and reap the savings without any harm to my quality or yield department. If you would like to know a good simple mix, send me a private message and i will get back with you.

I use lamberts organic, has some perlitle. Doing an experiment now with alpha cubes. Horse feed. think 2x2x6 inch long compressed hay. I bust it up in to curton size cubes. a fifty pound bag is like 12 - 15 bucks. NPK 2.5 5 2. got the idea from jorge ceres book. I also do add some nutes to my soil some bat shit some 5 dollar a bad bone meal its mircle gro I get mine from home depot, also blood meal same MG 5 bucks a 1.5 lb bag. And let them go. I usually just water for 2-3 weeks then gently add fert.

I always chuckle when someone rants about other people choosing to buy a pre-made mix for $20 to grow something which is worth more than gold, rather than acquire a boat-load of various ingredients to mix together in a kiddie pool. Its not like Ocean Forest is merely some sphagnum peat, dolomite and perlite; and it isn't as if it cannot be re-used.

I used to think like you, till I showed myself i didn't need to spend 40 bucks on a bag of my choice ProMix HP

That my bloom bat shit(1 tablespoon per 2 gallon grow bag) that box will last me one year or more 26 dollars. And at times I have 12 2x4 black trays going so I not saying I'm big however I run thru some plants. Add the 1 tablespoon per plant of the Blood meal(transplanted from clone to 1/2 gallon pots) 1.5 pounds for 5.50 USD. BTW I do cut large clones 6". The bag of soil was 10 bucks at home depot. I know its sht tho..LOL

What an arrogant little shit you are. Not denying it.. I am a bit pissy myself at the moment, just arising from a nap but "I used to think like you"... hah. You don't know the first thing about the way I think. Why don't you concern yourself a bit less with the soil choices others make (for reasons unbeknownst you) and more with growing your own shit the way you want?

roots organic, made locally so its dirt cheap ( bongsmilie:lol:) I got a buddy that works over there so only $8.50 per 1.5cuft. Even at normal price its only $13 and i gotta say if you can find it without the fungus gnats its some of the best straight out of the bag mediums around.

I use Pro mix for my medium, and so does everyone I know that grows in soil.

It's a quality nutrient free medium.
Giving the grower complete control of the plants intake.
I get a bail right up the street at a greenhouse for $34.99.

Pro Mix here, add all the nutrients (you're going to add anyways, why not just have 100% control) You can mix with some more perlite (cheap as shit) or keep it as is (like I do,) the first few weeks of flower its 1 watering a week... then towards the end it's every other day.

nothing is wrong with foxfarm its practically the same price as any other good soil, the difference in cost is not really relevant, I grew with fox farms for a long time but have since switched to pro-mix w/lime and amending it myself - I actually pay MORE now but I am glad that I get to mix my own soil, my results are now more predictable.

All soil is pretty much the same price except the shitty stuff you get at a hardware store - 40$ bail of promix is the same as 2x 20$ bags of foxfarms or roots or whatever. 40$ thats 10 plants or more vs 25$ if you use miracle grow or some crap vs 15$ if you use shitty potting soil that is terribad and can have bad results - Soil is one area where you don't want to cut corners, I mean for what to save like 50$ on the multiple pounds your about to grow with it?

Get the promix w/lime, mix in bat guano, earth worm casting, blood meal, bone meal, sea kelp, beneficial bacteria and fungus and bam your own super duper fox farms.

Best is to experiment. I would use miricle grow for a soil grow myself. But I would prefer a very good qaility coco peat over soil to be honest. Coco peat is by far the best to use if you are not growing hydro. It keeps the roots aerated and it is very difficult to overwater the plant. :-)

Coco peat is a completely different medium, it's not a brand.

On a side note though, I use Fox Fox's OF. It just makes sense for me, and it delivers great results. I have a local shop that I can get it for 17.50 a bag. I have used Miracle-Gro Organic choice though. It wasn't horrible, but the Fox Farm is definitely worth the extra money.
