power to pc fan

looking to conver an old pc case into a growbox, does anyone no how to power a small pc fan as an air intake. could it be wired up to a battery ie a motorbike battery ?

old phone chargers work; just clip the end off & direct wire it. most ppl got those around somewhere. the 2 power wires from a USB cable works too.

Use any 6v, 9v, or 12v power adapter, Not sure about a cell charger.
Anyone know if cell chargers send full power all the time or are they designed to trickle?

I used a 9v DC adapter on three 12 volt fans, it worked fine. I also know that if you connect the black and green wires in the middle of the main connector that plugs into your MoBo the power supply unit can be used to power things. The 4 pin molex pins that the fans plug into are 12v DC. http://thejohnsmith.posterous.com/cpu-power-supply-to-car-sub-amp shows how to power a car amp with a PC power supply. There is a picture showing which pins to connect. A switch could be soldered to these.

You could use a computer power supply, just use the appropriate voltages as multiple voltages are provided from the power supply. I would just use the cell phone charger though, if you don't have one ask a buddy most of us have 3 or more old ones sitting around......

So easy just connect wires together and plug it in. You can use these to cool lcd panels ghetto mounted to overhead projectors for ghetto high def big screen

am no electrician id probly melt it or summit lol, i was wondering what sort of light i could use i have a fluro but its way to big for the case should i go cfl? only going to be used for veg thnx

I'd just use a small computer power suply. The light will take up a good fe inches of space at the top of the case so anything on the same level or above is dead space, might as well fill it with bits and bobs. A computer power suply means you can have fans for venting, fans for circulation of sorts, and all from one wall plug :) Just short the green and a black wire on the 20pin connector using a paperclip.

if you use a pc power supply youll have to cross 2 wires so activate the voltage rails. i think its the blue on with one off the black 2 wires next too it. i usually cut the 2 wires i need and solder them quick and safe.
