Cooling my water temp Rdwc

Would leaving my top off my external res. keep the water temp a little cooler? Im getting a chiller but wont be here for two weeks and my temps are like 73 to 74...should i worry there clones started like two weeks ago.Just dont want to get root rot!

Chiller , can be found used cheap, Very good option , Or an a/c unit. I use a window unit myself. Brings in fresh (have to get a certain model) air , cools my room and keeps my buckets at 68-69 all day.

Wouldn't suggest leaving your top off. Put a frozen water bottle in the external rez, wrap buckets & rez with insulation. But my #1 suggestion would be to use a cooler as your rez. Check out my grow in my sig.
I use no bottles, chillers and rez temps stays 66-70

If you have your lid off, you will get algae.
Just put a frozen bottle of water or two in there.

leaving the lid off will reduce temperature as the water evapourates, but like medicalgrowman says you will get algae, unless you regularly dose with hydrogen peroxide or something , if you put your air pump or pumps ( i always think its better to use four small ones rather than one big one, then if one packs up at least you have got some air till you can replace the duff one.), in a remote place where the air is cooler than in the room, them bubbling cold air through thr water will reduce the temp.

Honestly that depends on your system, nutes etc, by 75 most have incurred some issue, by 78 almost all have has some issues. 68 is kind of a guideline, not a rule and different systems perform differently at different temps......

gotcha...mine have stayed around 73...but i cant wait for this damn chiller to get here so i don't have to worry about it anymore

Temps of 73 or higher make a perfect environment for root rot, but that doesn't mean you will get it. Root rot is always there waiting for opportunity such as broken roots, stressed plants, under oxygenated water, ect. So, aside from frozen bottles, your best defense for now is excellent water aeration and healthy plants.

Personally I would just inoculate with beneficial microbes and forget about temps, root rot, algae and the like.

the easiest way to cool ur res it to put a bottle of water sealed from the fridge into the res 2 if necessary

As far as microbes, Great White covers pretty much everything. Some DWC users find it beneficial to brew the Great White tea style to activate it and make it last longer. You could save yourself a bit of money by getting the soluble mycogrow powder from fungi.com, which is identical to Great White.

If you are itching to spend money, try adding a foliar spray to your schedule. I like liquid light + saturator from Dutch Master.

Yea high temps I agree are the main cause but crap air flow is the second, and thats what thinks been saving me the problem, i go overkill on airstones for my pot, 6 in total and its a hailea 6 way air pump that I use!

True. I have had my res temps around 74 during night, around 80 during the heat of the day, and only seen algae problems once, because I hadn't taped up the top of my net pots. Also added another air-injector ring and no probs.
