strain name, how large the buds are, and if they are purple or not, and premium pricing are the three biggest factors when it comes to selecting buds in dispensaries. Actual quality is a distant 5th or 6th place on that list. They want to open every jar in the house and then buy a half 1/8th of the strain they read about in high times magazine.
The really sick thing is the higher the price, the faster bud sells. That is regardless of quality. Clubs who cap their prices often do worse than clubs that charge $65 an 1/8. Clubs that have lower prices often get a "schwag seller" rep no matter good their stuff is.
These problems for the most part symptoms of cannabis being a black market product for so long. Hopefully it gets better in time.
People should keep in mind that clubs have no control over consumer behavior. If people want to pay $65 and 1/8 for something called "kush", clubs will find a way to give them what they want.
If people really could tell the difference between strains, didn't automatically reach for the highest price jar in the store, and bought product based on quality, then people would get better buds for less money. Unfortunately that's not how things work at the moment.
