Insulting members that are backing up their fellow RIU friends and insulting trolls is way different. Trolls deserve it, guys willing to back each other up don't deserve it, isn't that what a COMMUNITY is about? Supporting each other and making sure those "bad eggs" don't ruin things? The internet is getting to be more and more like "real life" since technology is taking over the world, and if people can defend themselves in person when someone insults them, how come we can't do that on here?

The rule is in place to prevent flaming, pure and simple.... You don't have to like it, but you do have to abide by it as do others. Again, if you don't like it and refuse to follow it, you have other options. trolls frustrate me as well, I just don't feel like i have to respond to them and stoop to their level with personal insults. I have in the past have learned it isn't tolerated.

yeah the no insults really prevents flame wars, by allowing trolls to nit pick at all the people who may blow up (and they get enough blow ups to justify the fun.)

Poplars, I understand that fighting back is logical and such... but what if the trolls don't go away and stay in your thread?

You've got no rule against insults now, so a 80 page thread could be nothing but a bunch of people going back and forth, calling each other names and just being generally stupid... with no repercussions.

honestly I feel like we're getting somewhere, you see people just calilng names back and fourth, but I see rationalizations being expressed and I see people understanding them.

obviously if the mods could control the flow of trolls they would have by now... do we /really/ want more of the same old???

trolls are OBVIOUSLY exploiting a loophole, they will not stop coming until they see that this community will fight back as a whole to protect itself.

allowing the mods to take over and the rules to help the community as you can see has done NOTHING but break us apart.

Is it possible that this "no insults" rule was put in place to try help keep cyber bullying down? Even if it was, it's been said over and over that RIU is for 18+ adults, not middle school kids that actually hurt each other by their bullying, we (well some of us) are adults and are able to get past this "bullying" but bashing a troll shouldnt be considered bullying or anything, it's a troll, they obviously don't have feelings.

That being said, if people are too sensitive on an online forum then let your balls drop and move on from RIU.

Take it this way, if someone came into your circle and fucked up the rotation or was disrespecting the vibe of the circle, they would get bashed and insulted, right? This is a stoner forum, Toke N Talk is probably the closest thing to an "online smoke circle" and why should the ones messing up rotation and the vibe be rewarded and the ones that supply the dank are kicked out of the circle?
