Recently bought some organic soil and it's been nothing but problem's developed gnats, and has low ph i have read that you can use baking soda to raise ph how much would i use in a .75 gallon pot mixing it up per gallon of water or would a person just top dress the soil with it.

their are no hydro stores around here i have dolomite lime but just thought the baking soda be faster acting the ph of my soil is 5.8

...other than the gnats, are you having any plant problems from your soil pH? ...or are you trying to prevent future problems? ...and, what kind of soil are you using?

If you have dolo, don't even mess with the baking soda too much.

Top dress with the dolomite lime, 2tbl/gallon of MIX and water in well. It will take a week or 2 to be effective.

5.8 is definitly a problem, when doing soil 6.2 is the lower floor. Do not use baking soda. Na builds up and locks K. Dolomite is the best bet you have

well i did use the baking soda didn't notice any improvement's after few days tested again it was still 5.8. I dressed it up with the dolomite and watered throughly, If the roots weren't so spread out through the shit i would just rinse it away till it was gone and move to it to some new dirt. I can't remember what brand name it was the bags gone just grabbed it at a nursery to try it, glad i bought a little bag. And yea the plant's just aren't really growing they yellowed up some not bad just not that dark healthy green, and they seem to be dormant not doing anything. Their sister's have left them in the dust i have them in sunshine mix #4.

Thanks for all your helpful reply's tristynhawk..
