In fact im gonna do a side by side with promix with and without lime added. I'll take some cuttings tonite and when they root I'll start posting. day by day and ill only vegg for like a week and then youll see
I'm interested in seeing that. I just switched from using straight un-adjusted tap water and miracle grow to this new regiment of nutrients so most of my research has been in that department, but I've been meaning to start researching what I could mix with my grow medium for better results. The one thing I've noticed about this sunshine mix #4 is it seems to pack down after several waterings. I was using sunshine mix #2 sometimes #1 and I don't remember them packing down so firm.

I also plan to try coco on a few plants after I feel comfortable with using these nutrients.

promix is notorious for having low ph (early to mid flowering when lime is depleted), I have been researching problems with promix for like a year and a half.. Next time you use it just add some dolomite lime to the mix before hand and that should buffer your ph and keep them nice and happy. And running a higher ph'd water thru your pots ISN'T gonna change you soils ph
what's the ratio of the dolomite lime to promix? I'd like to try that on a few of my plants to see how it works. I could try it next time I repot them.

Yeah I was going to ask that to clarify but thought it might be a stupid question..

I'm using sunshine mix #4, someone started referring to it as promix. Are these the same thing? I mean it does say professional mix under the big #4 on the bag but I thought it says that on all the sunshine bags. I always assumed the promix was another brand when reading posts about it.

And thanks again for the help guys!

ya it's the same thing and its 1 tablespoon per 1 cubic foot of soil. the only reason that they call it soilless mix and not soil is cause it has not nutes in it. I'm sure someone is gonna pop in and say pm has lime in it which it does, it just doesn't have enough to last a whole cycle, and once its depleted and the peat starts breaking down the soil becomes acidic, pot doesn't like acidic soil, it like nut soil 6.3-7.0 any higher or lower your gonna run into lockout problems and once you get a lockout your defs start to show up. I think that, that's alot of the problem people have in soil and don't even realize it. it took me a long time to figure that out ( which i am kinda embaras'd about cause it was actually something so simple )

I'll try adding some next time I pot them. So 1 tablespoon per roughly 7.5 gallons? Yeah I don't know why you'd be embarrassed :) I suppose all this might seem easy after doing it a while, but there is a lot you have to watch. I read a write up about sour diesel and that it liked 6.0 ph so that's what I was doing.

Hey while I got ya here.. How are you guys measuring ppm? Is there a fairly cheap hand healed meter you use? I think I'm going to run to my local shop and check some stuff out... I got nothin to do and it's a rainy day..

I really like hm digital, ive went thru countless hanna and milwkee ph meters and in my opinion the hm digital is the best on ive had so far. I have both ppm and ph meters incase i wasn't clear about that

Sorry but i thought the problem was definatly too much ferts! 2.5 weeks in soil, i must be missing somthing here, why isn't it an over fert problem, please point it out for me guys as i thought a little flush, leave it a week or two and maybe repot in to fresh soil would be the answer here....?

That's what I'm going to do, flush with water at 6.5 ph. The one thing that is missing that I normally see with nute burn is the tips of the leaves look fine. I've normally seen at least yellowing even brown tips with nute burn. I think they are right about it being low ph that may have caused a cal deficiency. Either way, hopefully flushing next watering with higher ph will take care of it, I might go the next two waterings with straight water... If it doesn't look better this time next week I can try something else.

it COULD be over-feeding. but I wouldn't bet on that. either way, flushing is indeed the answer.

I agree ph and flush, dolmite lime takes a while to work, the finer the grade the quicker it becomes active, gardeners lime in the winter ready for the spring and summer. Most dolmite lime will have some timescale advice on it. Have seen people mix it in the soil a couple of months before the pot plants in it indoors. Can crush it to a very fine grade with a decent pestle and mortar yourself as well.
