Dan, the texts are historical whether you like it or not. It is the fact that people can't just read a book to read a book and take something good from it. The books have much good in them but the hate is what seem to spill from it. Tribalism is a motherfucker. Religion is just that.

If we want to consider them all historical texts, fine. But lets not call them the "word of god" when if followed literally they give people the excuse to do terrible things. If you want to take the religious faith part of out them I've got no problem with any of the books. But the second you bring the supernatural stuff into it people do terrible things. Not just muslims either, although they are currently the worst, most major religious have historically done terrible things because of people's faith in these out dated texts.

if catholics took the old testament word for word, you wouldn't exactly call them peaceful either.

the only reason why i say i am jewish is because they seem to have the greatest ongoing debates about how to interpret the writings for good, not evil.

i also call myself agnostic and humanist as well, just in case you wanted too much info from me.

I agree. According to the old testament I can have slaves and murder football players for touching the skin of a pig on sunday!

Maybe that book is a perversion too.

Ahh show me where it says I can murder someone for touching a pig on sunday in the old testament! I read Hebrew(the language it was written in) and nowhere does it say that. It does say many bad things including slavery but not that shit buddy. Typical crap that comes with some asshole who does not know how to read or even understand root Hebrew. In the original Hebrew there are only three citing of Jews being able to kill. Figure that. The Old Testament also tells of events that took place rather than what most say it does. It is a story of a people in a time far removed from ours when tribalism ruled and shit like that was the way life was.

ok. well I can't find it by looking up quotes and I'm not going to read Leviticus, so... Either way, the point remains the same. The book says you can kill people over a lot of trivial shit. You're not going to argue against that right?

Just for the record, Iv noticed alot of Americans saying America is at war in Iraq and Afganistan. Just to inform those of you who want to know, America isnt technically at war with anyone at the moment. America is currently engaged in two extended military operations, but America never formally declared war on either Iraq or Afghanistan.
