I use 18/6 but I use a big light the whole process I would do 24 hours until they sprout with leaves then switch them to 18/6. I dont think it really maters its all luck of the draw or stress and to much light and no night is stressfull because its not natrual.

Yes keep them in a dark place though because when they are in the ground it being dark and wet is what opens them and then the root pushes the seed up threw the soil with 2 little leaves(somtimes 3 or 4). Thats when you start watering a little less to make the roots search.

yeah i noticed i kept them in the dark for four hours and they've started to break the soil surface.

so does this mean germinated seeds will not grow under light? (that is, will not break the soil under light)???????

Yes they will break the soil with light .Germinating is just some where dark and moist tricking it that winter water is melting away sun making it warmer the root pokes out the seed then pushes the seed up threw the soil (towards the light) then the leaves push the seed off and it starts growing either under 24 hours a day or 18/6 like alot of people do because of it being more natural. Im really high trying to explain its kinda hard I think I forgot what you asked?

I think they can germinate anywhere thats moist with the right temp and drop of water they would prolly crack open.

actually. thats more then enough. U got the lights a lil too close IMO. just bcuz U CAN have them that close doesnt mean u SHOULD. CFLs can get hot.

also where is ur thermometer? fan? what are U doing for ventilation and odor control?

theres a fan in there, no thermo. its a constant 45 degrees in my house. with the lights its about 75.

the reason why i have them close is becaus i dont want them to stretch. i check them every four hours or so.

About 3 to 5 inches is fine if a fans on them. Looking pretty shibby
