Do you think dwp reports high paid electricity bills? And do you think cops could do anything just on a high electricity bill? Like get a warrant?

I'm probably close to 10000 watts. 8000hps plus ac plus dehumidifier plus fans etc. I've just been super paranoid lately

well change all lights in house to cfls and turn computer off when not using and keep lights off when not in room

with the smart grids of today they can see power cycles and trends very easy here you start to draw attention over 3500kwh per month no matter what type of consumer.
once you use so much "demand" you can be seen as a commercial user subject to higher rates and demand costs.
Every power company and local authorties are different but if your spendind 600+ a month look out IMO

I read everything I can get my hands on about cops busting grow houses, even trial transcripts and case law. Almost invariably, it was a snitch or a CI that got them busted. The only exceptions were pure blind luck on the cops part. Sure, high power bills were mentioned, but it was always after the fact that they found the high power bill. If they're looking at your power bill, you're already under their microscope. I'd buy some broken ceramics kilns and set them up in the garage, and start a cottage industry ceramics shop. You don't have to actually use them, just get a business license for a ceramic shop. Those suckers draw one hell of a lot of power, and will help explain a good bit of usage.

that works or a welding side business is good cover use lots of power
and shut things off in house and use less then u have low bill and change all bulbs in house to cfls and shut off computer when not used

Sorry but I don't think the power company's agenda is finding growers. I've had plenty of 500 - 600 a month power bills when I wasnt growing, and sometimes I even (God forbid) paid late. An indoor sauna, a hot tub, multiple computers, servers, keeping AC on, flood lights, power tools, using your electric oven a lot, doing a lot of laundry, all have high electrical usage. Its when you get on the cops radar that it comes into play.

They don't. An eyebrow MIGHT get raised if you are a new tenant, and your power bill is say double or triple that of the previous tenant. But all that they'll do is show a comparison on your next bill. (That little usage graph you see on the bill) If YOU don't kick a bitch about your bill being so high, they'll assume it's fine and as long as you pay, (even if it's occasionally late) you'll be fine. Now you STEAL power, or don't pay your bill.........you need taken out of the gene pool anyway.
Now if the cops are, lets just say sitting outside your local hydro shop and get your tag #, that officer COULD gain access to your billing records (generally takes a court order, but it's amazing what $50 will buy) and that would reinforce him to start further scrutiny. Eventually you'll be fucked, because when they start looking at you, if they don't actually have probable cause, they'll make some. Nobody looks good under that microscope.

Unless your a residence using as much power as a Wall-mart store, and paying your bills they are happy to simply take your money.
If you use an ungodly amount way over what a residence could use, they may come looking for meter and electrical faults.
Pay your bill and don't steal electricity. Electric companies love high bill paying customers.
If LEO is asking them about electrical usage, they already have info on you and they are following up on things.

wouldn't worry..energy companies love money, pay your bill and you are fine.. i know 2 people who do not grow and have nice homes with a half dozen flat screens and a pool..i looked at their meter at a bbq and it was spinning faster than i ever seen a meter spin..i then asked old girl what her bill was monthly ..she said 700 a month ..they do not smoke or grow same with the other dude i know

I've read many opinions on here, but have a differing viewpoint to offer -- a small town viewpoint.
My bills are $390 a month now and ave been for a couple of years...
My town is tiny (800) and the county is rural.
The power company is a cooperative. The sheriffs office knows everyone there because they prolly go to church together.
It wouldn't take much for a sheriff to "find out" in a different way than a subpoena about high power use. For example, a friend hired some sheriffs to work security at a large gathering and STILL has not paid. He now has 3 sheriffs that personally are pissed at him. All it takes is a friend at the co-op and they can confirm that the hippie with dreads is growing...
and that brings me to the knock-and-talk where the OTHER giant chunk of busts come from -- SMELL.
I just read a paper authored by The University of Alaska Anchorage Justice Center, titled “Study Finds Marijuana Odors Significantly Associated With Marijuana Grows“. http://justice.uaa.alaska.edu/research/2010/1110.ast.marijuana/1110.01.marijuana.pdf
"The study examined 200 searches for marijuana conducted by troopers between 2006 and 2008. Of those 200 searches, 197 resulted in the seizure of marijuana. The three cases where no marijuana was seized were not preceded by the detection of marijuana odor.
The study concluded that the likelihood of discovering four ounces or more of marijuana was 2.7 times greater if based on the presence of marijuana odor. In cases where there were 25 or more plants growing and marijuana odor was present, the likelihood of finding marijuana was 2.9 times greater than in cases where no odor was detected, The study said.
Presumably, the study could be used to buttress requests for search warrants in cases where law enforcement officers claim to have smelled marijuana. The courts have proven skeptical of some smell claims."
so add it all up and it is possible that high electricity bills could get you into trouble depending on your personal situation. I know not all of you live in small towns, but there are thousands of scenarios that are possible that should cause anyone with serious power usage to be very careful and to consider the realm of possiblities.
