so i just bought 5 seeds and 2 came free, the 5 where laughing buddah and antoher california hash plant and the other white siberian, but anyways, after germinated i was going to place in rockwool, this is my first official grow, my last was 9 plants and a total fail with cfls lol, this time its going outside, and i was wondering.....
after the roots get good in the rockwool do you think i can just dump it directly into a 5 gallon pot from there? or do i have to start off with a 1 gallon? and then a 3 and so on? can i just directly put that little bad girl into a 5 or 7 gallon pot? im going to grow outdoors and about too start so i need too know before ? thanks, also im using fox farms ocean forest soil i heard it was good for seedlings thrrough-out the full harvest. any tips also appriciated! and also is there a gel or something that i can put outside so it wont smell much? thank you!(:

if your growing in soil start in soil, styrafoam cup size to start, next 1/2 gallon, next 2 gallon, next 5 gallon, next (Unlikely you'll get big enough to need it this late) a garbage can (plastic with drain holes)

I see no point in going up in little sizes... stupid and waste of $.

My first grow i went from party cup to 5 gal and grew up to be 3 feet and a oz of primo ass tasteing bud.

outdoors i like to stick to a 2-3 ft deep....2'x2' wide and long...should be plenty of room....also my only little trick i like to to is get a 3' piece of 1.5" PVC or ABS pipe and drill a bunch of 3/8" holes through the pipe...stick that in the soil before you transplant your plant ...you can gives roots more oxygen through the pipe..and watering is a breeze to just dump water down the pipe...it will chugg a gallon of water like that..the soil drinks it..enjoy

i apreciate all these comments! and will take it in mind , also i really like that pvc pipe trick sounds really usefull actually! and so it should be better to start from small to big instead of just jumping rite in?

i would keep them in a gallon pot or until they are a foot tall or so...and go right into the ground. You dont want to transfer all those times...it puts stress on the plants. If you dont do it exactly right you will put stress on the plant and it will take longer to recover(going from small to big pots so many times)

for the most part you want to transplant the least amount as possible. its less stress on the plant. and when it comes to pot size, it all depends on how big you want the plant to grow. if you want a smaller plant go 5 gal or less if you want a medium plant go 5 to 15 gal if you want a plant that will produce a lot go 15 plus. ive gotten really decent plants from 20 gal pots. personally i grow in raised beds now but thats just personal preference. good luck

I've used 10 gallon lidded totes from Wally world or Lowes...10 gal will allow 12 ft plant from personal experience.....
I use the lids, punctured and inverted, with a layer of diatomaceous earth as ground barriers.....keeps most critters from coming up the drain holes.......at around $4 a pop, they work well for me......Good luck & good grow.......BB

I ve went from ezcloner (rooted cuttings) to 16oz cups, then 1gallon or 5 gallon(depending on how long I let em stay in cups) then 15s...Ive noticed if I skip a pot size it shows tremendously in the plant growth....takes longer for it to hit bottom so slower to grow. Check out the pic this is my current grow...all three pics are from clones cut at same time off same mother only difference is the smaller one was moved from1g straight to 15
