Pot vs Liquor, And Why Pot Should Be Legal

Pot vs Liquor

Okay...brief overview. Pot is illegal. Alcohol is legal. You smoke too much pot you pass out. You drink too much liquor you go to the hospital, if you've had too much you might not come out with a pulse. You smoke a few joints, maybe a few bongs on a Friday night, what are you going to do? Likely eat a lot...maybe watch a game or a movie with some close friends. You drink a quart, you're out the door with a 9-iron mail boxing. Not to say I don't like drinking, I love a good drunk. what I don't understand is how liquor can be legal and dope can't. Takes me back to a funny poster I once saw, There's a Pot leaf and a beer bottle on it. It says, under the two "God made green, man made beer. Who was wrong?" Ok...Friday night scenario again. There's a party, you and your buddies have already had a few joints, no liquor yet. You're good to get in the car and drive. Same night, you've had a 12 pack. It may still seem like a good idea to get into the car and drive... am I right? Few joints, you're stoned...but for most of us...or maybe just not the rookies, our motor skills are fine. So, why doesn't the Government want weed to be legal? Are they really THAT afraid that we'll end up with a new age of stoners? Like...holy shit...Dope head's have less problems in life than alcoholics. Call it a gateway drug, give us your bullshit responses of Marijuana has over 400 chemicals, I've got news for ya guys...every plant has over 400 chemicals. Even Salvia Divinorum, a drug that is said to be the second most powerful drug since the discovery of LSD is legal. You have out of body experiences with Salvia. With weed you get relaxed...maybe have a small trip between two things. Telling me it ruins your brain? I'm pretty sure I still over achieve much, much higher than the vast majority of people that have never touched the stuff.

Well, that's my rant for today...hope you enjoyed :p Please feel free to add/express your own opinions about this.

I agree, the whole thing is bullshit, I reckon it will never be legalized, too many officials make way too much money for it to be legalized, pessimistic I know but that is the reality I'm afraid.:-|

Dude, fuck this shit, seriously. Every post that talks about how cannabis should be legal. No offense but this is literally like preaching to the choir. Good heavens, do you expect anyone on here to offer anything to the contrary? The bigger question is how we can mobilize together to do something pro-active and help fucking CHANGE something about it. Get mad, get real mad and maybe mad enough to take action.

There was a good right up in a uk paper about how many billions a year drink is costing the goverment $$$$$$$$

Theres a drink culture over here with relaxed drinking laws and even looking 24 hour drinking dens haha

Hospitals are filled with drink realated illness liver damage ect, jails are filled to the neck with them a very high % of violent attacks are from people under drink ,rape , murder , robbery , all these crimes be commited under drink. and them people lieing on the streets begging are all alchos

Ive never seen a smoker do any of these i wish i kept the write up it was very interisting
the only smokers that will do thse crimes above is the 1s that pump them self full of every drug and drink then go on a rampage , the true smokers just chill man i even watch soaps with a good cup of tea now days hahah

on the other hand its costing them even more chasing bed room growers and scooping people with a few grams and locking them up for a night even a month or two if ya been there b4

It can be maddening to hear the same arguments all the time. I am willing to tolerate it because people come to this site all the time to learn. Learning facts about the War on Drugs is essential as is any other skill we learn here. The more we arm ourselves with the facts the more we can stand fast in the face of blatant propaganda. Movements grow one person at a time.

Example: [FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif][FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]How Much Does Marijuana Prohibition Cost The U.S. Annually?

Increased marijuana enforcement is associated with greater fiscal and social costs. State and local justice costs for marijuana arrests are now estimated to be $7.6 billion, approximately $10,400 per arrest. Of this total, annual police costs are $3.7 billion, judicial/legal costs are $853 million, and correctional costs are $3.1 billion. In both California and New York, state fiscal costs dedicated to criminal marijuana law enforcement annually total over $1 billion for each state.

That is approximately 15 BILLION. Ask detractors if all that money would be better spent catching real criminals.

When I go to a party I can spot the smokers out in a second. When the young college type are yelling and drinking their face off, the tokers are there sipping on their beer being mellow. Karma usually brings us together and we step outside for a spliff and get centered.
1. How can a government BAN a living thing? they should ban those cannabis destroying insects too, haha. Man's law can now override God's law in this "christian" nation, bullshit.
2. How can a government control your state of mind? They fill so many heads with Faux News propaganda, they need to pacify the masses into complacency. Milton Friedman was a staunt opponent of the war on drugs because it violates basic economic theory. When there is a demand for something, people usually step in to supply that demand.

THE most AMAZING thing is how our movement has been scoffed at and ignored even in the face of so much evidence. News commentators prey upon basic human fears, they puposely use trigger words to seek a panic response, selling drugs to school children, KINGPINS, DRUG HOUSES, MARY WANA. When an intelligent individual comes in the voice of reason, every news anchor must ask "so do YOU smoke MARY WANA?" This shows how anything said falls on deaf ears anyways.

Because the government can tax alcohol. It is not easily produced so the government can keep tabs on it. Also they know if they made it illegal like they did back in the day it would give another rise to organized crime.

Pot is not legal because it cannot be controlled and taxed. How can the government profit from your recreational habits that can be grown in your back yard? Not to mention all the money they lose from making it legal. I'm talking about all the assets they seize from you when they bust you with your pot, that includes your money, house, your car, anything they label as an accessory.

I have a better written post on this in the Oregon Thread

Pot can absolutely controlled and taxed. It's an agricultural product which can be regulated as any other agriculture product - like tobacco.

Not true,

Try to grow tobacco in your back yard, which is the easy part compared to its curing and aging process. No, tobacco is grown from companies, and they can be controlled and taxed. You can grow pot on your window ledge. The government cannot regulate that kind of freedom yo.

Its like saying the government can control you growing dandilions. Its just not possible, grab a few seeds and your good to go.

yea they make money from arrests but they end up spending more money on court dates, police ect... and all those arrests clog up the court system.

you wanna know the origins of why marijuanas illegal... mexicans and mormons. when they started immigrating to the United States in the early 1900s mexicans were affiliated with smoking marijuana so one state after another outlawed it because back then we were racist. That may not be the reason its outlawed now, but thats how it all started.

I made perfect sense, go back and read what I said.

And why moonshine is illegal is my point. The government does not like people being self-sufficient with their recreational habits, they cannot profit off of it. And to make your own beer and wine, you have to buy the ingredients to produce it and they are all taxed, no?

*edit*
And to Taylor, yes, one of the reasons why pot is illegal is from the Mexicans, again, go read my post in the Oregon thread listed above.

yeah thats total bullshit...pot causes worse problems my ass...alcohol is not only worse for the health of the individual, but its also worse for society. My uncle was an alcoholic it caused him to lose his job, his wife, and his kids. He tried to commit suicide and failed ended up in rehab, got a job, starting getting to see his kids again, then he fell back off the wagon and wrecked his car into another car carrying a mom and two kids got a dui and a host of other charges, luckily they didn't die but the mother was injured badly and had to be put in intensive care. My uncle gets done with his 15 month jail sentence soon i think. My dad on the other hand never drinks, I may have seen him drink two or three times and I have never seen him drunk, but hes been smokin pot since he was 15 never gotten into any trouble hes now retired living well and smoking and growing pot. I never new he smoked pot until I was 18. I myself have been smoking more or less daily for the last three years and I am a college student holding above a 3.0, working a full time job, and I workout and run at least 5 days a week. If anything pot should be legal and alcohol should be illegal. I hope everybody posting in this thread writes his or her senators/legislators about decriminalizing marijuana at least once a month. And yes it could be taxed easily...if they made it illegal to grow and subsidized medical farmers to create the supply they could actually make a lot of money off it and the supply would be a lot of dank ganja .
