Coco Growers Unite!

i hand water and do drain to waste. if your using expensive nutes it may be better to do a recirculating system. i personally use GH bloom and micro which are fairly cheap and can be found for like 30$ a gallon but i also have been using bloombastic which is a shit load of money!!! with coco you dont want a lot of run off so not much will be wasted either way if done correctly.
 
I've been watering drain to waste and you use the nutes man! Then I was reading something that said you can recycle the waste. I tried that for a while and found that even with replenshing the ppm to correct amount, ph and molases. Having do that, some strains could take it and some couldn't. Even then the one strain that could didn't seem to produce the quality that previous runs did.
So I think that I am going back to drain to waste and not recycle.
Spend the extra little bit of money and use the fresh nutes everytime imho.

If I were you, order them online. I ordered 4 boxes and each box contains 12 bricks which was enough to fill 24 5 gallon pots. I ordered them at BGhydro.com for less than $100. I was using hydroton prior to coco and I'm never going back. I was sold on how easy to use it and better root system. Whether any brand of hydroton or coco, I always rinse my medium twice a day for a week before I throw any plant in it. I rather prevent and deal with the consequences. I ph my water to 5.5 on the last rinsing day. Another thing about coco is cal/mag issues. I would go to Lowes/Home Depot and buy 2 bags(about $7 each) of dolomite lime. Last thing you need to buy is perlite from the garden store. What I do is buy one of those kidde pool and throw the rinsed coco, dolomite lime, and perliite. I had success mixing 70% coco and 30% perlite. I have tried coco with no perlite and with perlite. Growth was more vigorous with perlite as it helps oxyginate the root system. As far as perlite, I put alot and put some more on the top bedding of the pots when I switch to 12/12. I don't want to have any issues of cal/mag on my flowering(always prevent instead of having to deal with it). You can mix your medium differently, I am only sharing my experience that work very well for me.

Depending on how you mix your medium, I have heard you can feed them every other day with ebb and flow. There's really alot to account for depending on your grow room and size of your plants. Your the CEO of your company so it's all about your observation. I have sealed room with co2 and I water them at least once a day(drain to waste) because they eat alot specially now that they are 4 ft. Really I barely waste because I chart the amount of water I use so I just water them enough with barely any leaks on the bottom. As far as bugs, noone is immune to them when you have plants in the room. I never had spider mites issues since I switch. You will notice those little small fly bugs which can be solve by hanging those sticky fly traps and after 2 weeks, they seem to learned not to mess with my room. Good luck on your grow and trust me coco is it.
 
Had tons of problem with coco probably due to using cheap stuff but heres a little update. I'm on day 58 of veg. I think this picture is from about a week ago.

Pictures always look a little sleepy as I take them right before lights out and it always has been this way with this strain.
 
what strain? my super silver haze is like that. i was thinking of adding another feeding to her an hour after lights out but i don't know if she would like that or not.

Everything is going well with them but the the new ones i just introduced to flower are turning yellow. They are under a 600 hps that is about 3 feet above them. Temps are in high 70s and 60% humidity. Im feeding them around 500ppm of A B along with calmag plus at a ph of 5.8. any ideas about the yellowing would be helpful. IMG_20110524_092631.jpg
 
I also topped the young plants before flower. If you notice im getting allot of irregular leaves with only 3 blades. thinking maybe a little stress from topping? they did stay in veg under 200watt t5 for about a week and a half after topping.
 
Dankbudzzz, did you just water? Im new to this but looks like to much water to me. That could also be causing other problems with the lady. What do you run your ph at? Anyhow, just a guess from the new guy.

lol i kow i went to the grow shop and told em i had 5 footers in a cut 2 liter bottle ,they said i was the luckiest person on earth.since the ive transplanted but ppl just wont believe you dont need a trashcan to pull off big plants.
 
Possibly a question for some of the more experienced Coco growers. I am going to set up a dripper system to feed my flowering tent using the Top Spin 12 dripper manifold. The system is run to waste.

Now here is the question....Does feeding little and often in Coco with drippers have any ill effects? The grow shop have advised feeding little and often with drippers in coco, but I am concerned that this will lead to salt buildup and possible overwatering.

The grow shop advised me against using flood drippers on the manifold. I was thinking that flooding drippers would be better because it would give more of a flushing out when feeding and that would help stop salt buildup. But the grow shop say I should use several feedings a day with slow regulated drippers stakes :-?

What should I do?
