hey everyone....im lookin into building my own led setup but i was wondering what exactly my plant wants, the plan is to manually build one better for the price and basically im asking you guys to help me pick out the bulbs, for example im looking at these http://www.ledsupply.com/5mm-leds.php but i dont understand the nm part....and id like to no if theres a maximum lumens they can take or if in theory i can throw 1 million at them....and my last question(which should prolly be my 1st,but im stoned so bear with me lol) is, what is the best way to measure the light???? thanks everyone for your help and putting up with my grammar lol

dude just go buy a bunch of cfls trust me, im doing led. for the price ur gonna pay u can rig together a sweet cfl system and wont have to worry about as much

call it a science project....lol...i have cfls right now and they just take up too much space for the light they give off....

I don't know enough to build my own, but I do think I know enough to say it isn't worth the time/money/effort unless you plan on making a lot of units or starting your own business selling them (like many others have). If you decide to buy brand names, I would recommend Blackstar units that use 3w diodes as they charge a good price for their panels (even though they mislead about their true wattage). Also there is growledhydro which is what I went with for I think several good reasons, Isis, Kessil, and one or 2 other good ones I can't recall. I've seen the most success with Blackstar and GLH (I recommend them the most, one you get more watts for the $, the other produces a higher quality light and will be a longer lasting product).

here is my 395w (18w into fans with the rest into 252 3w diodes that produce 12 different wavelengths) and pics from various stages of a few different grows with it
