I saw a post a day or two ago about hygrozyme and im haveing the same problems with slime.im useing flora nova w/ other g.h. Addatives in a dwc set up.anyhing better for roots out there that you have experience with???
Not likeing hygrozyme. Any suggestions?

I use humbolt roots bro in the small bottle.A bottle about 2 inches high runs about 25 bucks

I'm no expert in DWC, but additives are usually gunky.. I always mess stuff up when I use too many.. H2O2 is good at killing stuff in there... 29% H2O2 at 5-7mL per gallon of nutrient... but in DWC maybe 3mL per day... only do the larger numbers in a recirculating unless you get some one else to verify that you can do 7mL in DWC...

Far as I know hygrozyme is used for clean up of dead or decaying root matter by disolving it into useable nutrients your plants can use and for more of a preventative maintenance type thing... if u have slime isuues subcomplex m and b are what I've heard are used to clean up probs like that. But if its nots too bad h2o2 should do the trick. Mix some hydrogen peroxide with some water and ph it if its not too bad this may clear up the problem. I always dump a capfull of peroxide in my buckets when starting them up. Recently had and odor issue to but the peroxide cleared that rite up as well.

You must and I mean Must Use white widow or great white shark in conjunction with hygrozyme and use hygrozyme sparingly at first because Like on the dl said hygrozyme is formulated to eat dead root matter... However if there is no dead root matter to eat it will start to eat away beneficial parts of the roots causing the plant to have issues with nutrient uptake...

Great white or Zone. I use Zone and a little goes a long way. Dutch Master. It may foam a bit but no worries.

I use the maximum amount of hygrozyme without beneficials in a sterile hydro system with no problems.. It doesn't eat my healthy roots.. I wonder why it likes yours?

I like Hygrozyme. During my first grow I used it because I had a terrible case of root rot. I used Hygrozyme with SM-90 and it worked like a charm! I'm growing in DWC by the way. If you want you can add a little Hydrogen Peroxide in there as well. You can also give your plants a soak in H202 and water for awhile then resume your regular regime. Also clean out you equipment and swap out the nutes.

hygrozyme is known to cause issues in a DWC. You need to decide if you want a sterile res or a living res. Sterile fits with tradition but is laborious at best. Having a living res populated with beneficials is easy, and will accomplish everything hygrozyme does for a fraction of the price.

I tried hygrozyme after hearing all sorts of great things about it. I had slime problems start at that time.
I have come to the conclusion that a DWC setup needs to run fungicide/algecide or beneficial bacteria. I am trying both and liking the results.
From what I've read, the problem ith hygrozyme is that it breaks down the dead organics into sugar. This sugar is food for bacteria, and unless your running bennies, it feeds the slime bacteria.
Who out there actually likes the results of hydrozyme?

Are you using SM-90 with Hygrozyme? Best results are achieved when using them together.

ive been using hygrozyme in my dwc since i started and i fill 30 gallon coolers half full with roots by the time im done, and never had a slime issue. you guys need to concentrate on lightproofing, keeping your water under 68F at all times. i keep mine at a steady 65F, and if i notice any ph swings (because my ph is very stable), i will treat once with h2o2@5ml/gal, and just not use hygrozyme that week.

The Flora Nova series settles around all of the equipment and what you think is slime is just the nute. I know what you are saying I used FN for awhile and thought the same thing but if you have Hydrozyme in your tanks and your roots are not rotting you have a normal system just relax.

Whats up bro? I just setup my first 4x4 flood and drain. I am making the decision now to either go sterile or living res. I like the living res idea....any tips? What should change from one to the other?

Pretty sure it's not the same, but it has successfully proven itself as a solid foundation in all my hydro/aero reservoirs. Makes for strong, plentiful, and 'white as bone' roots.
