Ah man... that's about as much of a contorversy as the whole G13 thing.
The story is kinda pointless unless you know who Neville Shoenemaker is. He is the breeder that brought commercial marijuana to the world. If your more interested in neville and his story, you'd be better off looking it up or joining the forums at Mr. Nice Seed where this topic is better know.
There are threads and threads, on top of threads by people who abhor Sam the Skunk (same can be said for people that love him unfortunately..).
The main reason I dislike him is for what he said and did about/to Neville, my marijuana breeding mentor and idol. Long story short, he was sent by the DEA to infiltrate a group of breeders that were impossible to get to. The only way they could get to Neville was through another breeder. In comes Sam the Skunkman AKA David Watson. He had been a breeder for a while as part of a group out of California that was working on the original Skunk#1, and with the Haze Brothers, advancing the now legendary Haze line. Neville, being an up and coming breeder, agreed to work with Sam on advancing the as yet virgin commercial marijuana market. Time goes by, in the mean time Sam's still working with the DEA to get as much information as possible. I think his real reason for working with the DEA against Neville was to try and get rid of his competition, but who knows for sure why he worked with them. When it was time to make a move, Nev somehow got wind of the situation ( i think there was a public report on the radio or tv or something?? not too sure how he found out ) and split. He was on the run from the US for 9 years before he resurfaced. He was on;y back for a few years before he disappeared again.
What kills me is how someone who says there about the cause could work with the DEA and live with themselves. Then there's the idea that he alone was responsible, which is a lie. But mostly I hate him for what he did and said about neville.
That said, we do have to thank Sam for a few things, like introducing the skunk#1 line, and doing MOST of the work on it. He was also the person who gave Haze to neville, who then made it available to the world. So I guess you have to respect that a little.
But Nev did more work than anyone to give quality cannabis seeds to the world. People don't realize for the most part how much you owe to Neville. He gave Northern Lights, G13, Skunk, Haze, and Afghani to the world. Anyone who knows anything about weed knows that those 5 are the base for almost every award winning strain made.
