When to replant?

I have 4 outdoor plants(started completely outdoor since planting) that I planted into 16oz red party cups 13 days ago. They are now about 2-3" tall with their second set of leaves just growing in. When should I transport them to their final 3 gallon pots? And does the growth of my plants sound on track? About 3 inches tall with 2nd set of leaves growing in at 2 weeks? Thanks!

im gonna go ahead and assume you started from seed : p so yes sounds like your on track, and i always recomend transplanting directly into the final pot if room is not an issue

You want to wait until you see the roots coming out of the bottom of the existing container. That's when you know it won't fall apart when you pull it out to transplant.

I actually germinated indoors for 3 days until the sprout was maybe half inch.

You want to wait until you see the roots coming out of the bottom of the existing container. That's when you know it won't fall apart when you pull it out to transplant.

Oh how are the roots supposed to come out the bottom of the container? I have only one hole on the bottom. And its in the middle.

if its in a party cup it wont take long for it to fill with roots and as long as theres one hole your roots will find it when there out of room : p

outdoor ... you probally want to do that now . the root that's gonna find that hole at the bottom is called the taproot . It is the main root and helps decide how big that plant is gonna get by what it feels along the way - it wont get any taller than the taproot thinks it can support .... do you really want it to bottom out in a partycup ? ...dig your holes nice and deep so that root finds no restriction while it's feeling out it's living quarters ...then dig around good and wide and break the soil up real well ( or your medium if your adding it ) because the small roots that come off that tap root and grow out to the sides will decide how fat that plants gonna get . If you dont do these right you might as well leave it in a pot ..... I have found that if I water litghtly the night before transplant it helps hold things together ( just dont soak it or youll be working with mud ) . Take a razorblade or very sharp knife and cut down one side across the bottom and up the otherside cutting the cup in half - just barely throught the plastic . then lay it on its side in your palm and gently pull the upper half of the cup off - hold the exposed part of the damp medium and carefully straighen it up so that you are holding the half cup/half exposed medium - straight up . Have your hole fill to where the plants bottom looks like it should go and set it down in the middle of the hole ...take the hand holding the cup side and lift the last part of the cup carefully away .. use said hand to start covering it all up while the other holds everything in place .... easy as falling of a ladder ..... good luck ...hope you get some dank

So I should cut the party cup in half and take my plant out with the soil and put it into the 3 gallon pot which has more soil in it? Then just make it nice and snug?

You wait until you see the root sticking out or exploring the hole in the bottom. You will see white fibers eventually, those are the roots. At that point, you hold your hand over the top of the cup, turn it over and have the stem of the plant be between your thumb and forefinger, then you gently squeeze or tap on the cup until the whole dirt/root ball releases from the cup. Then you gently turn it over and place it into its new soil home and place soil around it and fill the pot. Then water it and congratulate yourself on a transplant well done.
