Why did clones get mold (looks like spiderweb)?

I was wondering if I should not use a dome to avoid getting mold,

Got a walmart cake dome for 5-6 bucks and used ph'd rockwool cubes with rootek gel and placed it above my hps light for heat cuz i dont have a heatpad.

Was my first shot at doing clones but after seeing the mold on them trashed them and started new clones. (after washing the dome with clorox)

Should i not use a dome this time around, or maybe let it air out more longer? (was only doing for 1 min per day)..

or should I get some tupperware and cut a hole so i can fit only the bottom of the clones/rockwoolcubes so the top of the clones stay dry?

The clones where about 1 week old .

that sucks bro i always get roots in a week using a dom and rapied rooters and clone x and some horemax hormone and i some times dont even open my dome at all for a week do you spillit the stem dowm the middle and sctape a littel off the side of the cutting and then dip it in your cloning gel and soke the rapied rooter once and put just right amount of water in the hottom of the tray and thats how i always get roots in a week good luck and let me know how things turn out for you

I didn't split the stem down the middle, I cut them at a 90 degree angle and scraped all around the bottom up about half an inch, then dipped in the gel and put in cubes.

Maybe its temperature in room 85-90 degrees F

its properly the hps light! save your self some time and effort and buy either a heat pad or heated propagator, and a 20 watt (100 eqv) cfl!

i get the best results with a cheap ass 40watt CFL for cloning...better results than my T5 setup
ive took about 70 clones now useing only 3 x 8 watt T5 and only lost 2 and that was on my first ever batch! really think low wattage bulbs are the way to go,

Don't worry about the mold, if it really bugs you spray some peroxide diluted with water on the infected areas. Are you just transplanting in soil? I always leave my dome on for my dome and tray, the top has vents on my dome, I think it cost me $3.00 at the local hydro store. If you don't have a dome on your gonna really keep close eye on them because it'll dry out so quickly. After I see roots I pop open the vents to slowly bring down the humidity then transplant. I think its important until they root to spray them once or twice a day keep them moist. I certainly don't care about a little mold, once transplanted you'll be fine. Sucks you threw away those clones because of mold. And use something other than a HPS light, T5 is best, but shit I've seen T12's even work, you can probably find them free on craigslist.

Agree if u are using a dome make sure it has plenty of vents. Dont use a hps on cuttings to warm it up ,buy a horticultural heat mat $25 and heat the cuttings up from the rootzone not from the top foliage. Get a couple of fluros, all u need at this stage. Temps are good, try to keep them at 85-90, but drop the humidity with the vents. Try putting the cuttings into 6 hrs darkness right after planting them, this reduces transpiration for 6 hrs and stops the clones sagging/wilting when u place them under a 24/7 fluro. Have the rw cubes no more than 50% wet at all times.Water with syringe if needed.

85-90 is not too high for cloning .. I get faster rooting times ALWAYS in the 80's compared to keeping the dome in the 70's

Thanks, Mites sounds terrible, right under the hps I got a couple plants revegging and No signs of spiderweb or mold on them, just inside my dome. The new clones are 4 days old now and I been bottom feeding them. No sign of mold on them so far. Wish me luck.

I put my temp/humidity meter under the dome so I can monitor the temps/hum but I've noticed that if I just leave it down or on fully till it gathers condensation then take it off for about the same amount of time and replace it I don't get mold and day 5 showing signs of root development (nubs).

I use a modifided system that starts as a low pressure aero system and then I change out the lid and it becomes the veg station and the rez sits outside the cabinet.
