Is this girl ready to chop?

Here's the conundrum: I read that she's ready when 40% of the trichomes are amber. Does that mean nearly half the entire plant? I have a Hash Plant girl who has been flowering under cfl for 71 days, and she looks ready, but the only place there are amber trichs is on the little leaves. Trichs on the calyx and rest of the buds are absent even a single amber one. Since my preference is couch-lock stone vs uplifting buzz, should I wait a few more days or until I see amber on the bud? is she ready.jpg

If you search through a few threads, judging a plant to be ready by its looks without a scope, most of the hairs go red, and everything tends to darken up. That still looks pretty fresh

This isn't entirely true, do some research. Peak time to harvest is actually when the trichs are clear and turning cloudy. Now before I get sh!t on for saying this, look at the HT article. Basically, the thc breaks down after harvest into it's psychoactive form. Peak thc (not CBD or CBN) is found in clear trichromes. The more opacity the trichromes have, the more the thc has began to break down to CBDs and CBNs. It's entirely up to the grower depending on what kind of effects are desired but for peak thc, clear turning cloudy is harvest time. Now, if you're like me and like the melting-into-the-couch weed, wait a while for the trichs to BEGIN turning amber (20-30%) then chop. Do this because the plant doesn't stop all processes when it's chopped. The plant continues to produce resin and such until it runs out of stored energy. When you chop a plant, notice that the leaves stay erect for some time. Then, they go very limp. They also change color after more time. So, this is between the chop and death. The buds, after harvest, will keep breaking down the thc until it ceases to live a few days later. Anyway, my point is that you should look around at professional harvest guides and see for yourself what you should do. By professional, I mean not someone that just got done with their 3rd harvest on here. Anyway, GL with the big chop!

i cant tell ya weather to chop or not bro but i do wanna say that she looks very nice i jus wanna kiss it!!!!! lol but i can tell ya if you like the speedier buzz chop her now and if you like to melt in the couch wait till everything darkens up a little!!!!

Ok, but is it 30% amber on the small leaves, which turn first, or on the entire bud? Should you wait to see at least a few amber trichs on the bud?

30% amber means that in any given sample, about 3 in 10 appear amber. Now, you'll have some variation in the plants maturity so certain spots will have more amber and some less, but you have to make a judgement call and make an educated guess. Unless you plan on looking over every single crystal on the plant (which obviously isn't feasible) then just call it good when you think you're there. Hope that helps
