Not too bad for a first timer. Some weird root porn!!

Hello to all. This is my first grow. After I did a rez change today the roots stated to look weird. The do not feel like slime nor smell. I will be adding some bennies to the system once my mycorr come in the mail because I dont have a chiller. Well you go. Tell me your thoughts. They have been in the system for about 12 days or so.

Thats awesome to hear about the roots. The bagseed must be some hungry plants. I will up the ppm. Right now it is at around 250ppm. What would be a good number to bring it to? I will be using the tea you posted as well. I orderd the soluble mycorr from fungi.com. For around $8 shipped it seemed like a great deal. So just some EWC and molasses and im set correct? Thanks for your input.

Best to keep records of your PPM flux over a few days and then decide just how hungry the plant is. Right now I would bump it by 200 ppm if it were me, but I do not know your nute schedule. Personally I would also give it a light foliar feed, very light, just to help things along.

The EWC is optional for you because you are only trying to prevent disease, and not fight it, however EWC is never a bad idea. Ideally you want a soil amendment that contains EWC as well as forest detritus. Ancient Forest is excellent.

I have been keeping a record of it. Its 75-85 gallons of solution for the plants to use. So the ppm has not been moving much actually. Would I just go by the Dyna-gro bottle instructions and foliar feed them during lights off or on? I would research the foliar feed bc I dont know how to do it. I guess just mix up the solution and spray the leaves?

Yep, do some research. Foliar feeding has the potential to screw things up with just one application. Best thing to do is get some liquid light + penatrator from dutch master. I spray when the lights are on, but I raise HID lights considerably or else just use the supplemental CFL lighting until they dry.

Well I have 5 toughbox containers that are 27 gallons a pop. 4 of them are in the tent and 1 is on the outside of it. The water level is 6.5" and after I calculated my volume it left me with 75-85 gallons. I just wanted to grow some trees and the containers sit in the tent so well. I did not mean to have so much solution in the system but that is just how it worked out. It really does not seem like that much in action but it is. I figured with me being a noob it will give me a bit more room for screw ups with more water in the system. I kind of used my reef aquarium logic but I may be wrong. I just hope the bennies and the roots love being in all that solution. I hope the bennies love a solution that ranges from 73-77F. Do you think having so much water in the system is a problem?

Thanks bro. Its not really that bad actually. I put the system on "set it and forget it mode" well not really but its pretty fun. Im just trying to learn how to read the plants so I know what they want and need. Thats the complicated part for me. I must tip my hat to you on the soil growing. It may seem strange but that seems complicated to me. I guess being a aquarium person for years has drawn me to hydro.

There is nothing wrong with a big res. It has some advantages. But hydro is about efficiency. So it really doesn't make sense to use more water than you need. If you are anticipating screw ups, then you should anticipate having to dump your res and start over in emergencies, and that gets pretty expensive with large tubs. It really depends on your goals and preferred methods. I personally do a rolling harvest and put up to 4 plants in one 6 gallon trashcan. Because I harvest every two weeks I need my buckets set at different ppms. My plants spend only two weeks in veg. If you are vegging out for a while or growing many plants, then a bigger res probably works for you.

But drekoush, I will say that a guy from work has a prett crazy aquarium, n that shit makes hydro look way easy!!!

Thats great to know. Cant wait to get my bennies in this system to see what it is really made of. Im on page 35 of your thread and its a great read! But I dont have any slime at the moment so I guess I will use 4 gallons in the system and put the other gallon in the fridge. Plus my res stay at the perfect temp for the bennies.
