My question is for people who use this particular soil.

Do you or have you ever had a gnat infestation after a few days from them spawning in the soil?
If so how did you decide to correct this without chemical pesticides?

miracle grow is garbage soil and the soil itself harbors eggs that hatch almost no matter what u do...period. the 110% answer to your question is sand. pour a evenly dispersed 1/2 inch layer of regular play sand on top of the soil, the gnats cannot penetrate the sand and die underground, this will work 100 percent guaranteed. you can come back and plus rep me after u see it works..... dont listen to anything else, waste of money

i don't like that mushrooms always grow in that soil on its own. i even use ocean forest for my seasonings, avocado tree, lemon tree, and spanish lime tree.
lol. That's funny. Most farmers flock to soil that develops mushrooms, but you avoid it. I love when people talk shit about a product but prove how great it is in the same sentence. Awesome.

Remember its just peat moss and manure. The same stuff farmers and gardeners have been using for centuries. Scotts inc just harvest it, chops it up, sterilizes it, and packages it under the Miracle Grow brand. Gnats occur during shipping. All the big soil companies get it; it's a regional thing and has nothing to do with the brand. Roots and FF is using the same stuff but they add in a few additional ingredients.

i used a layer of sand, about 1/2 inch layer. worked great!! and i also use ecosmart organic insecticide... its a mix of different types of oils, pretty good stuff.. i spray around my plant area and that helps keep even the winged buggers out for a while... im outdoors, so its a constant battle...

their soil and their organic bone and blood meals work well, but their other chemical stuff, i would stay away. some have chelated shit and i have heard that chelated chemicals are bad for the plant and you, so yea mg, only if it my last resort or when i need a soil fix fast.!!!!

I disagree. MG works just fine. I am also sure you can come up with a better arguement then MG is stupid

i dont understand why there are so many people hating on MG and most haven't even tried it, they're just repeating what they've read or heard. its sad really because what they can accomplish with their 40$ soil i can do the same with my 5$ soil and my 5$ nutes.

I don't like it because i don't want multiple things growing in the same pot fighting for space n nutes, they are not magic mushrooms. they are wild n poisonous. ive seen algae grow around the mushrooms. attract all kinds bugs that wouldnt bbe there other wise

No worries, it happens a lot :) Sorry but what is tri?

And I dont know if Roots is worth $40, but I would try to go with something organic than MG, buts that's just my NorCal snobbery coming through ;). You can look at the ingredents of Roots and try to find a decent substitute.
