Banning Children From Restaurants.

Do you think it's fair (or legal) to completely 100% ban kids from a restaurant? There is a place in Pennsylvania (I think) that's banning all children. I think it's bullshit if you ask me. What do you think?
 
I don't know man, sometimes I get pissed when someones kid won't shut up. You know, that one baby you want to just go strangle to death and throw in the garbage can....
 
first of all, what ever parents take their children to a place like hooters should be shot imo.. my brother used to take his kids there before they closed it, and i just thought it was sooo tacky... don't get me wrong, i don't have any problems with boobs or what not, but come on now, how many places are there to eat that you could go to otherwise that you have to take your kids to hooters?? it's a disgrace..
but as far as the op and banning kids from places to eat, that's just insane... what's next, no single people, no parties over 4, no females on wednesdays, no males on sundays, no bald guys on saturdays, etc etc etc... it's just retarded... if you're a parent and your spending good money to go out to eat, why should you be forced to spend even more money for a sitter to watch your kids so that you can go out to eat, bs.. and i don't even have a kid, lol..

What's up brandon! Being the manager of a "family restaurant" i would have to say Hell yeah! I have kids, so I'm not being bias. Banning is a great idea, especially when we have kids running around like savage animals with parents no where to be seen. I get paid to run this store not baby sit. Our policy clearly states that children must be accompanied by adults at all times. Does it work? Absolutely not. If my girls behaved like some I see here they'd get side walk slam, lights out! I think the parents should have to pay full price for kids and not a discounted rate. I mean were not chucky cheeses over here.
 
If this a classy "have to wear a jacket" type of place? Or just a typical restaurant?
There are plenty of fancy restaurants people can go if they don't want to be around little kids.
 
i think it's acceptable to choose the rules when you're the owner of the restaurant. just like you can say so and so is not allowed in my house, no dogs, no shoes... your place, you mkae the rules. is it nice? not so nice but hey, it's their place.

I manage a restaurant as well and banning kids would make my job a lot easier....

You think it's fair to ban all kids preemptively? I mean don't me wrong tons of parents bring kids that just aren't mature enough to just sit and eat. I just think it's crap to ban all children. I've been bothered by drunk "adults" more so than I've been bothered by kids. I think if parents can't control their kids, they should be asked to leave just like you would ask a person who's had way too much to drink.

I wouldn't be bothered about if it were a fancy restaurant, or even if they didn't allow children past say 7pm.

It's not even the fact that I'm a parent. I'm smart enough to know I'm not bringing my son to a restaurant until he's old enough to behave himself. I would NEVER bring my son any place if I knew he was going to bother other customers. Unfortunately I know not many parents think that way. I do think it's funny that you can ban children all day long, but ban anyone else based on age and it's ageism.

That's ridiculous to ban children from a typical restaurant.

A set time would be more appropriate. I remember a local movie theatre I went to had the "no children under 18 permitted after 10pm" or something along those lines which was cool. And for christ, you're going to a fucking family restaurant, you didn't make reservations months in advance and had to wear a tux.

I've never had kids bothering me that much in restaurants anyway, they misbehave much worse in stores.

"I WANT THIS TOY NOWWWWWWW!" "BUY THIS FOR ME!" "WAHHHHHH WAHHHH WAHHHH" "I HATE YOU!, WAHHHHHHHH"
 
Unfortunately, it will never happen. Were serve 2000+ people a day, casual sit down dining. And our targets are family's so I'm out of luck. I just think more parents should be aware of the kids, and respectful to our policys. I actually had a young family with a child about 2-3, the child wondered out the exit and was playing in the grass out front. I watched the whole thing waiting for them to retrieve their kid, and (now I'm babysitter) make sure nobody took or hurt their kid. The mom is flipping out and I ask her if that was her kid outside. What happens next? She turned it on me like it was my responsibility to watch her kid. Lesson learned I hope.
 
Economics will decide if it's appropriate for the location. I can see myself being drawn towards such a place when out on "date night".

Really I just think it's up to the parents whether they should be allowed to bring their children out to eat. If the kids can't behave, kick the parents out. I think it's fair. I feel for you man, I really do. I couldn't work in the restaurant industry, I wouldn't be able to stay sane. I also think it's the restaurants responsibility to take care of wild children. I hardly see the manager or even the servers intervene when the kid is going nuts. They wouldn't have a problem saying something (or kicking out) a belligerent drunk but when it comes to children, it's like they think it's not their place to say something.
 
I think it is fair to ban children from some restaurants. Obviously not many will because of lost revenue. Nice restaurants are nice because they create a good atmosphere. Some award winning parents are just oblivious to their Tot having screaming contests with themselves and those that wish to avoid such atmospheres should have the option. Its an adult's world, your just growing up in it.
 
LOL i've worked in a few restaurants in my younger days, Subway, Pizza hut, East side Marios and a few other local pubs. I've seen great moms run outside when their baby makes a squeak and others let their children howl to the point that other customers asked to be moved to a new section for some peace and quiet. I must agree that parents need to be aware that other people are paying for an enjoyable evening out, sometimes away from their kids ;) but also i was never shy to walk up to a customer and ask if their was anything i could get them ( wink wink shut that kid up) I would have never acted like some of these devil spawn creatures i seen, my mother would have spanked my ass and tossed me in the car and left, after embarassing me for embarassing her in public lmfao.
