I got Hipoint 45cal carbine for home defense. Its ugly but the low recoil and simple design makes it dead reliable. 185gr @ 1225 fps is just nasty.
Any hunters? Or gun enthusiasts? (Survivalists?) (Food preppers?)

What's 185 grams, the load fired? Was just researching this gun and it seems like it's okay for home defense especially because it's semi-auto. The shells I just looked at in my box weigh 1 ounce though. What's the difference between say hitting a target with this gun and a 12 gauge shotgun with 00 buckshot? Thanks.

185gr is not grams its grains which is the amount of powder in round. and the difference would be there wont be anything left when you hit it with 00 buck shot at close range. i personally like the .357 mag for home defense expecailly if your loading your own you can make thoose suckers pretty damn hot.What's 185 grams, the load fired? #6 would not be my choice for turkey - try an ammo specifically designed for them, like this.

Hmm thanks! So what am I supposed to use this 8 shot birdshot shells for? I have a box of em. And also the 6 shot? Target practice? That turkey shot's shells look like the 00 buck remington shells I have, same color. So what would I do to a turkey if I shot it with 6 shot, instead of 5 shot? the turkey loads are 5 shot it looks like, and weigh a 1/4 of an ounce more
Note the turkey loads are buffered - thats key to keeping all the shot together at longer ranges. The color of the hull means nothing, just what ever plastic they had on hand when the rounds were developed. #8 are good for Dove, Quail, squirrel, rabbit & the like - think close range, small target. 00 buck is good for deer, but lousy for home defense - no shot spread & wicked over penetration. Pretend you were to fire a .32 pistol 9 times in your living room - that is the net effect of one round of 00 & it will zip right through sheet rock etc... Not good !
For home defense I would lean towards your #6 in a low brass (2 3/4"), manageable recoil, reasonable penetration & minimal muzzle flash with plenty of downrange Oomph.

Birdshot is for small birds in flight, or skeet shooting which is a ton of fun.

Cool I have #6 shot, for home defense. That's very interesting from what I've read. is it not good to fire 00 in close range at a home intruder? i'd be less worried about my walls then anything else!

Alright so what if I shot a squirrel or rabbit with birdshot? Would it be a clean kill if it was a headshot? Skeet shooting does sound fun we'll have to try that sometime.
Don't worry about walls if you're shooting 00 - worry about whats on the other side of those walls. Over penetration tends to kill the unintended.Cool I have #6 shot, for home defense. At close range (within 15-20 yds or so) #8 will kill a rabbit everytime, there are so many pellets its major shock trama.

I have several guns, from a cheap .22 revolver to an AK47. Anyone else do any black powder shooting? I've got a couple cap and ball revolvers and a hawken rifle, looking into getting a three band enfield.
