Please help me with a reality check since I am not experienced

Hello. Is it a bad idea to do a grow in an apartment complex?

Now what I am contemplating is the following:

Realistically, as long as I do a lot of research and spend a good amount of time with the plants, is it very difficult for a beginner to grow really good quality bud? Like some real top shelf, lots of crystals, very potent.

Is there usually a lot of trial and error when you start out, even if you read a lot of material?

If so, how long did it take you to finally get growing some really good bud that you could sell.

This takes me on to one of my other questions... so being in southern California, in reality, since I am pretty sure so many people try doing this... is it extremely difficult to become a vendor to clinics? Are there various ways to distribute besides to a clinic or else on the streets or to illegal dealers? Because I do NOT want to go the illegal rout.

Also how much I need to be able to have if I am a vendor. Like do I gotta have a pound a month or anything that makes it easier to do?

Pretty much, I am wondering if I am going to spend a good chunk of money on the stuff to do it, will it pay off, and around how many months can I expect it to pay off?

Google is your best friend for legalities and if you want to figure numbers, the seed banks have approximate veg and flower times included with all seeds. Read up on lighting and what you need, figure out total wattage (I.E. one 1000 watt light on for one hour = 1KWH - 100w for 10 hours = 1KWH) and the price per KWH in your area. Figure out veg/flowering hours per day, total KWH you will use per day X 30-31 X months into the grow. Get the approximate yield indicated per strain per measured area and divide by the weight to price ratio and then subtract all the expenditures put into the grow. The remainder is your earnings.
