First Grow Sweet Afghani Delicious aka SAD S1 Auto

Buddy gave me one of his autoflowering feminized plants. Sweet Afghani Delicious S1. I have an 85w 5500k full spectrum cfl on its way and a 68w 2700k cfl. Will probably keep the 42w 2700 cfl on there as well. I got organic choice MG brand potting mix w/ perlite (couldn't wait until that Saturday to get FFOF to make the transfer out of the solo cup). Going to use FF nutes. I have neem spray on the way--saw a few spider mites. Got a 9in. fan on the plant. Keeping the set up and the process very very cheap.

The plant was certainly the runt of the litter. It isn't looking too great right now. But the growth started up again since I transferred it to the bigger home. There is a lot more perlite in the soil under the top layer--can't see it in the few pics. It stretched a little in the beginning. First set of leaves are yellow. Brown tip on one of the large leaves. But the third set of leaves have started growing again and a 4th set just peaked through. I'm doing a good job watering for now, I believe. I plan to nurse this baby back to health and hopefully yield nicely. I'm about 1.5 weeks behind.
Using my phone so these are pretty blurry.

Edit: Journal discussion page

The 85watt is broken. Getting a new one.

The setup is looking much better. My grow spot is about 80-84 degrees with 48-50% humidity. I need more full spectrum lighting--going to have to wait 2 more days for that new 85watt 5500k.

Today I added a ton more perlite to the soil. It was necessary, the soil was drying way too slow. I watered it a few hours later for the first time since I transferred pots way over a week ago. Might have overdone it a bit, nothing major. I got my neem and I sprayed the soil, plant, and dish around the pot a few times with a solution I made: 5ml neem, 2 liters water, few drops of dishsoap--the spidermites are gone. Still pretty early in the growing process and nothing too serious to worry about.
Still taking pics on the phone...

Edit: I'm between 1.5 and 2 weeks behind now. The runt will prevail.

I do have a question...

She's still very young. I noticed I transferred her into a pot that's a little on the big side for her current state. The pot is big enough for the finished product. Will this have adverse affects on the plant?

Stem is greener, growth is continuing. On a 20/4 light schedule right now. Posting more pics today when I get home. I hope for an explosion in growth soon, seeing as the transplant shock seems to have ended. I'm a solid 2 weeks behind at this point. 85W 5500k arrives tomorrow.

Here's how I plan to set up my lights:

Veg -- 68w 2700k overhead. 85w 5500k diagonally from the side toward overhead (the thing is the size of a lg iced coffee from DD). 27w 5500k about 3 in. away, opposite side of the 85w.

Flowering -- 68w 2700k overhead. 2x 42w 2700k on either side. 85w 5500k around top/middle and rotating sides day to day.

So pretty basic but a great spot. I have been leaving the A/C in my room on and keeping that right-hand door open as seen in the second pic. Light barely gets away even with this door wide open. The light facing away from the camera (my phone) is a 27w 5500k. Temp seems to be at 84 degrees during the day this way. The thermometer shows 90, high of 91. There's a good reason for this, lol. I had just got home from the gym when I took these pics, I was just radiating heat. Temp rose 7 degrees as soon as I checked on the plant.

More growth now. The stem looks a lot healthier too. Leaves are still in bad shape. New leaves look fine so far--a bit over-watered perhaps.

How does she look? She's been through quite a bit of stress from poor lighting and soil in the past. I dunno, is it grim looking? All comments appreciated.

I'll check that out. I'll try to find some this weekend and post pics.

Just bought two 52" x 82.5" emergency camping blankets. (4.3' x 6.9') They are like full blown mirrors! They put tin foil to shame. Only $2.89 at Walmart--camping section. The box is about the size of a deck of cards. It took me like 5 minutes to find. Check it out:

If I don't have a chance to post pics on Friday, I'll be posting a bunch on Sunday to show new growth and my setup with these added blankets. :blsmoke:

just picked it up and thew it up and took a pic. guna re model but jus wanted to say besides blinding me wen i walk in the room it works great!

i was told that foil would danage the leave
Technically speaking, the creases in tin foil and the emergency blankets can create "hot spots" from the glare. Realistically speaking, it's all a bunch of BS. Especially since I'm using CFL's--they aren't nearly intense enough. Regardless of your bulbs, if you're grow space isn't too cramped, you won't get leaf damage. The simple fact that your fan is probably blowing on your plant causing it to move constantly is basically enough to eliminate the leaf dmg theory.

What's more important, is that tinfoil isn't the best reflective material. There are much better options for cheap. I used tinfoil b/c I had some in my apartment--it doesn't get cheaper than free. I bought emergency blankets b/c they were under $3 and I don't feel like painting flat white everywhere.

EDIT: Hot spots aren't from 'glare' really. It's more complicated than that.

She's growing nicely now. Looking good.

Can anyone tell by looking at these pics how long I have before I need to start feeding her. I'm using organic choice MG potting mix. Says it feeds for 2 months with organic fert. Any ideas?

Also, I put one of the emergency blankets up.

You can't see the 85w 5500K CFL but I have it hanging parallel with the plant. Retired the 68w 2700k. I have 153w on it right now. I turn the pot 180 degrees every day to diversify the lighting.

shes doing very well man, hey and for feeding, i would start after your soil done feeding or atleast close to. my ffof is 30days and i probly wont wait that long before i start the nutes. but i do use an anti stress mix to water every water for that month too my little clones. shes doing fine just wait a lil wile longer for nutes. also all of my recomandations come from FFOF which is a very rich soil...

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to hold off on nutes until the end of next week--possibly even the following week. I watered 4 days ago and going to water again tomorrow or Friday. She's looking pretty good without nutes thus far, considering she was on the verge of death before:

I'll see if I can get a real camera for flowering pics.

She showed sex: feminine. No surprises there, considering they were feminized seeds. Was a little worried it would go hermy from the early stress. Nope, good to go:
