Question for those that have used Jack's Classic 20-20-20

How much do you use per gallon of water? I'm afraid that I may be using too much even though I only used 1/4 tsp per gallon. In your experience, should I drop it down to 1/8 tsp instead? My plants have been in the soil since 6-25 and have been fed twice so far. One plant has two leaves that look like nutrient burn, but the rest of the leaves look completely healthy. The other plant is completely fine.

been using jacks for the last 2 years. i started off at 1/4 strength and increase it by 1/8's each week till i figure out how much the strain can take..when i get slight burn at the tips i back of by an 1/8 the next feeding...wait 2 weeks then go back up by a 1/8 each week. i stick to that unless i start seeing any slight yellow...then i will increase it a 1/4. but there is no set feeding schedule...each strain is different and some require more or less...read each plant and it will tell you what it needs..no one on a forum can tell you what your plants need...the plants do

So I guess it's not worth running out and buying the Fox Farm nutrients instead? I've had a few people tell me that the 20-20-20 isn't correct for vegging and that I should get something with more nitrogen than phosphorus and potassium.

those are the same people that bought into the hype of high priced nutes....a balanced NPK ratio or close to is is what you want to shoot for.

I agree with djruiner, 20-20-20 is perfect... many people use low cost ferts instead of hyped high price nutes and get great results, many better than the hyped nutes.

Thanks for the info guys. Looks like I'll stick with Jack's Classic, I just need to figure out how much my plants need. They are looking good since the flush and have been fed twice now with the 20-20-20. By the way, I also have Jack's Classic Blossom Booster and the directions say you can alternate between it and the All Purpose 20-20-20. Is this something I should do, or would it be best to wait on the Blossom Booster until I start flowering?

Actually, a blend of the 2 works really well, along with alternating them.

Go on the Jack's Classic site and search or look for the "Dynamic Duo".

I've been using Jack's for well over 30 years, from back when it was Peters.

That is actually what I bought (the dynamic duo). Do you like to alternate between the two or mix both together in one container?

When you say 1/4 strength, do you mean you only use 1/4 of the recommended 1/4 tsp per gallon of water each time you water? It seems like 1/4 of 1/4tsp is such a tiny amount.

One more question. Should I use the 1/4 tsp per gallon of water and use it every time I water or use 1/2 tsp per gallon of water every other week? When you water, are you guys using somewhere around 250ml of the water/nutrient mix per plant? I am using 4.5 gallon pots and 250ml seems like it barely soaks the surface?

I like mixing the 2, you end up with a nice 15-25-20 blend. I use 1/4 tsp of each (1/2 tsp total)/gallon of water.

I nute like I water, till I get good run off and apply it once/week. For a 5 gallon container, this is around a gallon +- of nute solution. I've never really measured 'how much', but look at the run off and make sure the entire medium is saturated with nutrient solution.

MAKE SURE THE ROOTS ARE MOIST, FIRST!!!!! *I* water the day before I nute. A buddy waters a couple hours before nuting. Different methods, same results. Whatever works best for you. Just don't dump nutes on dry soil/roots.

Thank you so much, that is exactly the type of information I was looking for from someone with Jack's Classic experience. I will start combining the two and water with the nutrient mix once a week.

we use redi-gro moisture formula with a top feed drip system that drains back to the reservoir. in veg we use 1/2 tsp per gallon of 20-20-20 along with Epsom salts. In flower we use 1/2tsp per gallon of the bloom booster. we top of the reservoir with plain water once per week and drain and refill the reservoir every two weeks.

Do you mix both like that throughout veg and flower?? And do you use any other nutes/supplements??

It always amazes me how folks can take something that's ridiculously easy and foolproof and make it needlessly complicated. All to what end?

I use Jack's. Max concentration in veg is 1 teaspoon per gallon for feeding with every watering. To answer an older question, I use Pro-Mix (though, virtually any medium will do in a pinch) and Jack's. No additives, no magic potions, no improvisation, nothing mixed in. Some of the results are link'd in my sig.

As a rule of thumb for a new grower, the more variables you introduce, the less your chances of success. Good luck.

Edit: Let me talk a bit about working with the stuff. Like I said, the product is essentially foolproof. Below is an example of seeds 2 weeks from sprouting after being fed with JC from Day-1:

As you can see, all the plants have 3-5 nodes within 2 weeks of sprouting. They're fed with 1/4 concentration of JC (ie/ 1/4 teaspoon per gallon) for the first 2 weeks, then the concentration doubles in the next watering, doubles again in the one thereafter, and then stays constant at 1 teaspoon per gallon.

Starting with a rooted clone: First watering is 1/4 concentration, then it doubles with every watering until max is reached. That's it.

That's how fucking easy this is. No variance at all. There's elegance in simplicity that translates directly into big yields.
