nitrogen deficiency - yellowing bottom leaves?

One of my plants was in just soil and the soil got real compact and it started to die. I transplanted it to some soil with perlite and it seems to be getting better on top - the leaves are getting darker, bigger, and stronger looking. When I took it out of the old pot the roots were all bunched up together on the bottom. However the bottom leaves are very yellow and dieing and some getting crispy feeling, the worst at the bottom and getting better the higher on the plant they get. I did some researching and it sounds like it could be a nitrogen deficiency? I don't ph my water and just started feeding a 8-7-6 mix very lightly. The odd thing is the tips of the leaves are curled down as if I was overfeeding.

Is there any way, like some organic mix that I could make to add some nitrogen to the soil and see if it gets any better?

I think i have the same issue as you...i hope anyway. On one of my plants, the leaves at the bottom were turning bright yellow...slowly working its way up the plant. It was already in rich soil and i was adding nutes on top of that so it didn't make sense that it was a nitrogen deficiency. I repotted and the it looked like it was rootbound. To make matters worse, i had an inch or so of gravel at the bottom that the roots were wrapped around so they weren't really getting any water or food. I'm hoping it'll stop yellowing with the bigger pots. I'll know in a few days. Good luck.

wow never feed nutes if u put in fresh soil. min w8 is atleast 2-3weeks after fresh soil.

I have the same problem! My babies are 4 weeks old and they were doing great until yesterday. They are turning yellow - the older growth - and they are getting brown, brittle spots. I figured it was Nitrogen deficiency and fed them with FF Grow Big. Lets hope we are on the right track! Good luck fellow farmers!

Thats the ticket. They will green up real quick. I was going to recomend that. Fox farm nutes are the shit and they are cost is good.

Thanks DirtyBoy! It seems like they look better already, but it could just be my imagination. How often should I feed them? I mixed 1 tsp. per gallon. The bottle says every time you water. What would you suggest? Thanks again!

a lot of people here feed every other watering. and water every 2-3 days, or whenever the soil needs it really. That's the schedule I'll probably be following when I flower.

Sounds like a pH problem to me. I was having the same problem using FF nutes. Flush at least three times (one end of veg/ two flowering). Check these tables out FoxFarm Soil & Fertilizer Company .

I would agree with Josue, it looks like a ph problem, most likely the ph is to high.
My first grow was looking small, the bottom half of the plant was yellow, and the top leaves were all curling after 3-4 weeks. I decided to buy a $50 digital ph meter and found my water to be about a 8.2. Within 3 days of adjusting my ph levels the plants nearly doubled in size.
