Can you cut a plant in half and clone it?? (at the main stalk)

All the info I have read regarding cloning talks about clipping a branch with at least one node.....My question is this, can you just cut the main stalk of a plant and dip that in the magic clone juice and use that to make a clone...(say on like a small plant, Maybe 8 inches)

I don't know the absolute truth behind this....But I did run an experiment with cloning a while back (here's the thread https://www.rollitup.org/general-marijuana-growing/23842-cloning-top-bottom.html) and had a plant that was about 14 inches tall and topped it about three inches down, cloned it and it eventually took root, about 3 weeks to do it though...so I guess the answer might be yes, but I think environmental conditions would have to be right on to do a plant of any size.

The reason the people take cuttings from lower in the plant is there are more rooting hormones to promote root growth in the lower part of a plant, therefore roots appear much quicker...

i did this with one of my plants. the sex is still undetermined but i took a clipping from the main stalk about 2 or 3 nodes down.. how long can i expect it to take to root? and im using the water method, i used no rooting compound at all. i have the nodes sittin under the surface of the water and over a jug to keep humid. any advice to make sure this clone will succeed?

I have never tried to clone without a rooting hormone, would be curious to see what kind of results you get. With a hormone my clones root in about 7-10 days...I have used a bubbler to clone as well as sticking the clone in a starter plug, both worked well for me but to prefer to just use the plug, simpler and somewhat maintenance free.

I have done this I cloned a 10" plant at the main stem it had stem rot so i chopped it above the rot and ended up with a rooted clone after about 2 and a half wks, this was before sex was determined it was a lady and i have since cloned her again

For the last two years I have been rooting my cuttings in a potting compost and no rooting gel. Have had very very few non rooted cuttings, usually between 10 and 14 days, some a little earlier.

ordinary seed and potting compost. I have just started to use some of this
for potting up the rooted plants, not tried it with cuttings yet though.
