I am getting ready to switch up my lighting system. And I am about to buy an air cooled hood what kind is best? So far I am between these two.

First we have the regular cool tube web_CoolTube6_GALLERY.jpg

Then we have the inclosed box styleView attachment 1715749

Wich offers the best results? Anyone and everyone?

I LOVE MY

Sunsystems blockbuster.

Using a 400CFM fan for only the lighting system i can get my reflector within 1 inch of the tops.

Pics of the reflector and how close to the top of a plant.

PIC of that same plant at day 36 of 12/12

those sunmasters are the bollox looking.

i was gonna get a cool tube bit didn't like the reflector size and cant afford a top dollar hood so

i got one for 50 quid, its almost 2 foot square and has a 6 inch in/out opening, using a 460 m3/hr fan on it , and in 3 days my plants have rocketed

its 3 inches from the top of the canopy.

edit, using a 400 dual hps.

anyone using a cool tube With 6'' or 4'' a duct busting fan?
hey no worries guy, in the US things are cheaper, im sure you could get something for a good price, itll be worth it over the cool tube if you got the dollars to spare , i like the cool tubes for convenience, but i just think the reflectors are crap, but they DO work.

just not as well, lol

lumenaire 8" hoods are the best bang for the buck.

melonhead hoods from AN are my favorite yet they are more expensive but they are best sealed very large light footprint and great construction quality.

I have been looking around and I decided to go with the Big Kahuna it pretty kool :-o:-o:-o I Got a few things from them today so the air cooled hood was pretty cheep 90 dollars. Not bad huh?? Check it out

Hope it works as good as it looks:idea::idea::idea::idea:
looks very similar to the blockbuster that i use.

Running a 600w comes with a serious amount of heat to deal with, i use my 600w with a 400CFM fan that is speed controlled so that on warm days i can crank it up and cooler days turn it down, I have ZERO grow room air passing through my lighting system as it has its own cold air intake, then i use a seperate filter and fan for air exchange and scrubbing.
Duct booster fans will NOT be able to run a 600w effectively, choose a REAL ventilation fan. INLINE CENTRIFUGAL.

I use the Super Sun 2 from Sunlight Supply smallest physical footprint and has the 98 precent reflective over some of the other models that have 86%, gotta watch those sneaky guys. 6 in fittings with sealed glass w/ gasket. I have no complaints and would recommend them to any cabinet grower that can spend the little bit extra. I use a 400 CFM fan on a 400w hps bulb on a variable speed controller that ramps the fan up and down like a speed controller but automatic for day and night. With a circulation fan in the grow space the buds are touching the glass in places, near the bulb they will get toasty but on the edge they seem to do fine.

thing you need to look for is either a sealed cool tube which rocks like a mellonhead or the hinged with gasket glass design like lumenaire hoods. the sunlight hoods that use those shitty wingnut deals are garbage and never seal worth a shit. i just had to run a bead of silicone around all my hoods because CAP was backordered until "we don't know" lol

you only get what you pay for.
if you have cash to burn then the magnum xxxl 32" hood is the best in the world but costs an arm and a leg.

look at the size of it campared to the sofa and regular sized buckets.

it comes with 6" or 8" ventilation, .

oh its garbage is it, funny i have 4 of them uk versions and they are the best hoods i have ever used, i will be buying them until something better comes on the market, but until then, these babies are solid steel construction with toughened spectrum enhanced glass.
not cheap chinese shit with a label thrown on.

i have the 8" versions and i use them with 1015cmh (597.4cfm) fans and 1000w hps and they are ice cold.

I will be using my 6" cool tube with a inline fan. I chose the cool tube over the hood kind because it takes less space then the hood and you can run 2 lights in it also you can use a MH and a HPS light in it or 2 MH or 2 HPS lights in it.

cool tubes were designed to be used vertically with 360 degree light all the way round in small spaces, and vent the warm air away, a brilliant invention, but not as a half pipe shining horizontally.
to use them horizontally and save space is excellent, but if you have space then use the correct equipment for the job, you must get as much light to your plants as possible.
and metal halide sucks.
never let any one fool you.
you get clowns on ebay that add little shields to the cooltube to make it look great for horizontal growing, that is, they pay say 10 bucks for the tube and add the shield in a few seconds that cost say 3 bucks and charge you 60 bucks, brilliant eh. the best lights, my fucking arse.
a little cooler than a shade though, as the cold air travelling through has less resistance, but not by much. as the air is forced by a fan.

a few pics from google :
