I really need some advice on this one.
I am my dads caretaker. He has a surgical screw in his leg and high blood pressure and he has to medicate every 3 or 4 hours. He is unemployed and cannot afford any medication. He has his red card and a doc recommendation for 40 plants because he is not supposed to smoke and needs edibles.
We bought 3 mothers and 12 clones from a dispensary in early May. Planted them outside a week later in a greenhouse. Some of them were over 7ft tall, beautiful, and thriving.
A few days ago our neighbors kid had some friends over and they went into the back yard. Me and my dad just happened to be working on putting up a fence around our yard and we were watering the plants so the greenhouse was open and these kids could see from where they were, in the door. No one else knew where we lived and that we were growing, except for the police officer who patrolled in our ally.
The next morning I went outside and all the plants were gone. They were only about a week into preflowering and had no bud, so the thieves got nothing. We prosecuted, and all three kids were charged with felony theft. But now we have a problem.
For one, my dad is about to run out of medicine in a month or so and we cannot afford to buy him any more.
Secondly, the officer that arrested the kids said that we could only claim restitution for the out of pocket value of the plants, which was just over $800 from the dispensary in Boulder.
So now we have no pot, no plants, and were only gonna get 800 bucks in restitution.
The value of all that pot would have been well over $30000.
What are my options here?
