Leaves curling under and drooping, turning yellow and greyish

I checked my plants this morning at 9AM and found my bottom leaves are turning yellow and grey. The soil was dry so I watered them, and now, about 11 hours later, they are all drooping and curling. The cups they are in have very good drainage, but there isn't any perlite in the soil so that might be an issue. The soil is MG Organic, so there could be nutrients in it burning them, but I figure that would have happened when they were seedlings. The plants are 2 weeks and 2 days old, started under flouros and now under a 400W HPS with a 16/8 photoperiod. The room stays 80 degrees in the day and around 70 degrees at night, usually around 30-40% humidity. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Real constructive Ghetto. Let the guy use the soil he wants, just because you personally dont like MG organics i seen some real good grows in it.

Yo dude maye a repot or some ferts. If the soil has time release nutes in maybe i am unsure but they could be getting enough already. Plants look smallish for their age at the moment. Did you let the soil dry too much? this might have affected them to some extent although i would go with a repot up if the roots are established in the pot and poking out of all the drainage holes.

The fact that on this occasion you have let the soil dry to much dose not indicate that you were not overwatering before and hence other problems but i dont know that just ideas.

Change your soil on the repot to a better one if you want, others use MG organics fine, only problem i see is seedlings need a seedling soil preferably, may have been a bit strong originally. Also dont forget to add some drainage in the form of perlite or somthing, soil staying damp for too long is bad also, want soil to dry after 4/5 days ideally. I assume the 400w is not too close to them with those temps as well. These small plants dont need the 400w light too close at the moment. Cfls are not great but if your talking about strip light flouros maybe better back under these as they are still small and will be more fogiving on the plants. Just some ideas to think about. I've used MG several times, indoor and out. For cannabis, it really should be ammended with perlite and lime, at the very least. I find it best to add a cubic ft of promix per 1.5 cu ft bag of MG so it isn't too hot for young plants.

If you want, you can add bonemeal, bloodmeal, and guano to your soil mix so you only need to give it water from seed to smoke. That's how I did my first grow, I'll give you the recipe if you want it.

I have never been much of a fan of growing in thin plastic cups. For one thing they let a lot of light into the rootzone which can encourage pathogen growth, but worst of all the roots are not protected from the heat from lamps.

I bet that if its 80f with lights on, then the soil temps in those cups will not be much lower than that. Root temps should not climb over 68f or else the roots will shock and cease uptaking 'nutrients'.

Whatever the case there are certainly some root stress issues happening with those plants. Small seedlings like that should really be in a proper seedling mix rather than soils that adult plants are grown in.

Alright, so I should add perlite and lime and put them into actual pots. I have a bag of plain Scott's Topsoil, which I figured would be better for seedlings. I also bought a bag of perlite, but I didn't read the whole label and it turned out to be MG Perlite "Enhanced with Nutrients" so I didn't really want to use it. Maybe a mixture of the MG Organic, Scott's topsoil, perlite and lime will work.

Also, I'm not against buying new soil online if anyone knows a good one to recommend. I kinda just got the MG because it was the only thing at the store without time release nutes. It doesn't really have to be organic either.

Topsoil is bad for pots dude, too heavy and stays wet for too long. I use westlands seedling and flowering multi purpose 10litre bags from homebase or B&Q garden section and only buy the bags stored inside. Forget topsoil its not for indoor use generally. Perlite, lime and westlands gives me great results, recently trialed Cannas terrea plus organic soil but got so many fungus gnats i couldnt believe it so discontinued it and now got to use gnatoff with every watering, almost got rid of all the flies and larvae from it. Amazing soil but the pests put me off it, stayed wet for too long as well but never seen an overwatering problem.

I used westlands for years, add perlite and lime and its good to go, topsoil is too heavy and muddy for me, i want a light fluffy compost that drains well and holds pH for the entire grow hence the lime and perlite. Good luck.

I mixed together the MG organic, perlite, and lime, then transplanted into bigger pots. They're still looking pitiful, but hopefully they'll perk up in a few days.

Next grow I plan to ditch the MG completely and make a mix of mushroom compost, peat moss, perlite, and lime. I also have blood meal, bone meal, and fish emulsions I plan the fertilize with. Anyone know of anything else I could use?

Yer these plants dont need ferts anytime soon, wait a few weeks and just add water, should be ok hopefully in time.

I dont subscribe to mushroom compost and blood and bone meal in indoor pots without proper care and preperation but some do it, whats wrong with a good marijuana fertilizer and some proper soil with added lime and perlite. Your soil mix sounds like too technical for a beginner but hell go for it if you like the idea. Peace
