Questions about switching from veg to flowering

I've checked out several grow guides and while they were helpful, I have specific questions that I haven't found convincing answers to. This will be my first grow (2-3 plants max in a small area that's about 6-7 sq. ft). I plan to start vegging with T5 fluorescents at 24/0. I then plan to switch to a 400 watt HPS lamp for flowering. But I'm worried that switching to an HPS may shock the plants. I'd buy a MH for vegging, but I don't want to shell out the cash (I already did that for the HPS). Is it common to go from the T5s to HPS? Will the 400 W HPS be too intense for such a small space?

Also, do you guys have any experience with grow tents? I just got home from checking out a local hydroponics shop and they had a nice selection of grow tents.

Also, once I stick the seeds in soil when do I introduce light? Immediately or is it ok to wait a couple of days?

It's perfectly fine to switch, just keep your hps light a little higher for the first couple of days after switch so your ladies can get used to it.

Yup perfectly said.

I have had 100% success germinating in paper towel, transferring to soil, lights on 24/7 to answer that question.
