Vertical bulb light coverage- 400w

I'm thinking of starting a vertical op (possibly a scrog arena) but have never grown vertical and don't know much about it. With a vertical bulb, is there any usable light directly underneath it? How big is the dark spot if say your bulb is 3 feet off the ground?

I would only recommend using that method if your using multiple bulbs...

add some cfls an a t5 to hit up the top and dark side with a cfl and you can add blue spectrum to make light more well rounded. I suggest not turning and using a net at week 3 am use that to stop from them stretchin to the bulb. I only go vertical amazing way to go

That's cool, I have only seen people doing it and never tried it myself. I would think it would be geared more towards bigger and bushier plants..

Nobody answered you question; the answer is no, bulbs radiate outwards from the "sides". Which is what vertical growers rely on. From the tip very little light is emitted.

What I like about vertical growing is that no light is wasted on hitting a reflector first and bouncing back (more distance) - instead all the light from the bulb hits plants first.
Also, heat can easily rise above bulb.

Some day I'll have to try it.
