How to create a strain

Is it as simple as putting the male plant of 1 strain and the female plant of another strain and the seeds produced are the new strain?

Sure it could be, but it wouldn't be a very reliable strain trait wise. You would need to further breed it for the specific traits you want I believe.

Yea, I know you can't just throw 2 together and have a nice strain. I was just not sure if there was some scientific junk to it or something, or if you can just put them together and let nature take it's course.

Okay, this is all speculative, but I THINK this might be a method for stabilizing a new strains traits...

Put 2 plants together, male and female(making sure to take cuts of both), let 'em do their thang...

Take 50-100 of the resulting seeds, grow them out and choose the one male with the traits you like the best, breed it with the ORIGINAL female cut...

Take 50-100 of the resulting seeds, grow them out and choose the one female with the same traits you like best, breed it with the ORIGINAL male cut...

MAYBE you've made something with somewhat stabilized genetics...I'm not really sure to be honest, but I've read a lot and it still barely makes sense to me.

But if you just put 2 plants together, the resulting seeds are called F1's, and they're semi-stable, but as soon as you breed them together they go haywire and you get a ton of different phenotypes...or thats my understanding...But then again, I might not understand at all! lol...I AM way stoned...all the time ;)

Like Meta said, It's a very long detailed process and it requires patience and a surplus of knowledge. If you're attempting I highly recommend finding some formal literature on the matter.

OK, well I guess I'm the only guy on this site who feels this way but here goes. Don't do it!! It's much more complicated to do it right than it seems and it is a cluster fuck if you do it wrong. You are not qualified to do it. Sure you can, but why?? Really. You will just end up with a pollen infected grow environment that will haunt you for a long time. You're just playing and you don't know what you're playing with. If you insist on playing with pollen please prevent it from infecting everyone elses grow for miles around you. Please think about this. I feel strongly you will do nothing but create bagweed for years to come.
Just saying

you know guys if you wanna learn how to so something you have to start some where, and him picking this site i think is a great choice , (well with these kinds posts maybe not) . any way if your real serious about trying to breed, try reading a book called the marijuana grow bible. there is a very extensive and detailed few chapters about breading that can help you out. they even go over how to contain your pollen , Grow on buddy

Ok first off, I will be doing a ton more research before I start. Obviously if I opened this thread asking how to do, I am a complete beginner, so of course I'm not just going to start creating new strains.
Second, when it is done, it will be done well, not ghetto style in some closet. I will have an entire room dedicated for creating new strains.
Lastly, Ruining plants for miles? If it even managed to get out of the room, the probability that the pollen gets on another female plant, at exactly the right place and time, and fertilizes it, well I think it's more likely to win the lotto.

Smoke on :)

Ok, I agree to a certain extent but this site is loaded with people wholly unqualified who imho need to perfect growing skills long before breeding campaigns. I for one have an outdoor grow and the one thing or at least one of the things that I cannot control is the guy growing bagweed polluting my pure strain of primo shit. There are responsible ways of doing this but if you haven't done any research on how to breed new strains then chances are you haven't spent 2 minutes worrying about my crop. I seem to be the only person on this site who says anything and although I usually brace myself for the inevitable blowback, oddly enough I have found that a lot of people agree with me. I just wonder why no one else expresses what appears to be a widely held opinion that you should curb your pollen. This is not just a passing thought that randomly enters and exits my own private Idaho, I am seriously worried that my LA Confidential is going to suddenly "hemie" for no apparent reason. I wonder how many of these random events are actually latent pollen from god only knows where.
just sayin that's all. No hate here, but why don'tcha all just practice on tomatoes or something before jumping headlong into something that could potentialy wreak havok on our outdoor grows.
I will now step down from my soapbox. Not a pulput, just a soapbox.

not always, to cross fruits with weed you need to take the nucleus of a fruit cell (lets say orange) and put it in the meristem of your weed plant and you get orange kush or orange haze or orange cheese

See people........... this is why you should google your questions instead of asking stoners everything . Do your own research.

I just came back from a seminar about growing fujoa. Fujoa or more commonly know in America as Pinnaple Guava are not well received in America but are LOVED in New Zealand. Why? Because all of the strains in America have been dilluted with seedlings and because Fujoas are not true to seed (much like mj) we end up with inferior trees that produce crappy fruit. That is what is happening with pot and I believe that we are hell bent on losing some very good strains due to "amateur" breeding programs. Botany has a history of lost strains due to this and I worry this is happening within the mj community.
