FDD, you fish if I'm correct? And maybe hunt too? You wouldn't take a shot at one of these in your back yard?so this is the "new rollitup"?
I have four dogs, three of them being old, who would no doubt walk up to a "dead" possum and sniff it. Although there is a chance it may just lay there, there is the same chance it will snap with those nasty fucking teeth. I'm the person who doesn't take chances.
My young one is show value, pure bred $2,700 dog. Hence the reason I'm stopping the confrontation before it starts. There is no doubt in my mind that my youngest would have ate it for dinner. But as I said I'm not one to take chances.

you would probably step on it, and i would laugh.
one of our momma opossums recently had babies. i saw her climbing the ramp to the roof and her stomach was full of lumps. they carry their young in a pouch until they are able to care for themselves. she recently let them all off on their own. we leave food out for them every night. they are tiny and adorable. i grab one every once in a while and rub it's furry little head. they are actually hella soft. they roll over onto their sides and play dead when you touch them. it's rather cute.
so my wife opens the back door 2 mornings ago and is greeted by carnage. apparently one of the babies was eating some of the food we left out when one of the raccoons happened upon him. raccoon decided little baby opossum would make a tasty treat and ripped it to shreds. my wife found the aftermath. blood and little chunks of hair and flesh everywhere. she cried all morning.
just because you don't understand something, doesn't mean you kill it.
i do not hunt. all the fish i catch are released, alive. i usually just stop at Mc Donalds on the way home from the lake. i really see no reason to kill things to feel better about myself.

I do understand them. I understand full and well exactly how a possum lives, and believe me this isn't the first one I've killed. I was a raised on a farm, and have seen what they will do to chicks.
Also.....if you bother to re read through this thread ( in fact I reiterate 2 posts above yous) I explain exactly why I killed it. Then maybe you wouldnt think that I killed it to feel better about myself.
i saw a HUGE opossum behind my washing machine. i said "hello little guy, want to smell my hand". i stuck my hand back there to try to pet it. it sniffed at my finger so i moved my hand closer. that was when it bit me. it got my whole finger in it's mouth. my wife is still laughing.
it left 2 tiny little scratches. it was more afraid of me then i of it.
if your dogs are in danger of being harmed by an opossum you'd be better off killing the dogs.
you had NO reason to kill it.

you have to be slightly of your rocker to feel a desire and derive pleasure from killing ANYTHING. Dont you have anything better to do with you time then you kill defenseless animals then defend your action like it a civic duty to rid the area of opossums, give me break. do what ever you Like but dont act like you know that what you are doing serves no really good, it satisfied your need to control things by taking their life away.
