How do I hang lights? Where do I mount fans?

I am going to be growing a few plants just to learn about growing. I don't want to spend too much money. I just want to grow the plants in a sliding closet. There is a rod to hang clothes, but that is about it. How do I mount lights in here? How do I mount Fans, exhausts, and filters.

All the grow guides just say "mount lights, hang fans, etc"...Nobody is telling me for a simple simple set up how I can do this without tools.

Some of the more basic grows say to get loads of CFLs and position them all around the plants...what exactly am I clipping them to?

I feel if I could have some basic info on how to hang lights, I'll be in business. I don't really want to modify the walls or my house or anything.

Could you get a Picture of the area? that would help.

In my closest I started in i got a 2x4 and nailed it to the wall and clipped a light reflector to it
and its not really a modify. its a little hole or 2 which can easily be covered.

but a picture would help greatly give me and others an idea of what we are looking at

if you dont have the commonsense to know how to hang a light, or arrange cfls around a plant, you shoudlnt be growing. have you looked into ropes/chains/hooks/cables?-belts and cords if your that cheap? keep it 2feet away to prevent burn on your plants-this can varry. 1$ sockets for cfls. hot air rises, put ur exhaust blower around there, oscillating fans blow on the plants to strenghten stems and circulate cool air around. i know i sound like a dick but if you take 2 secs to look at someones grow you would know where you need to be at.
shit, letme guessn2 weeks you will post ****URGENT, PLEASE HELP***
is this what my plants is supposed to look like at 2weeks? whats this yellow spot? why are my leaves droopy? should i give her full nutes now? is this a sativa or indica? I topped her a 1 node and she doesnt look happy, what can i do? what to do and how to do it? please!!!

You are on the right site to learn a few things, my advice is to do as much research now before you just jump into it! You will want to have a game plan, go ahead and write it down if you need to. A good guide for beginners to learn alot is Growing Elite Marijuana, you can buy the ebook online. You can google "grow room setups" they will have layouts blueprints or just pictures, check out the DIY subforum on here, there is alot of useful info on how to build custom CFL boxes for cheap. You can start a simple grow for cheap, just research, research, research, and you will be fine! Everyone has to start sometime!

Dude, that's harsh. I'm not a dummy. I just don't have experience mounting stuff. I don't have any friends that do this. I have time and money on my side though. I was looking into thousands worth of grow tents and closets that have all the ports I need and places to hang and mount stuff. I just wanted to get a grow under my belt without all that. Not too cool to spend 1000's and then find out you don't like it.

10 years ago I ran a 90 plant aeroponic system complete with 1000 watt lights, light balancers, CO2, Fans, exhausts, water supply, etc under my sub basement. I had the money, and I had a friend with good mechanical know how to set it up. I was always better at crunching numbers than I was at wielding a drill.

I know that once the mechanical piece is set up, I can operate the system. I think you should be more careful before you put people down who have grown but do not know how to set up the equipment so well...

so youve done a 90 plant grow ran with 1000s, maxed out with co2 and such, and you dont know how to hang a light for your closet setup? im just confused, am i the only one? its not rocket science. when you ran that older system did you ever open your eyes?- i know it musta been hard with all those 1000watters but cmon

wait, what....? You grew mad pot 10 years ago and don't know if you'll like it or not? You have no tools, no money, and can't modify your house? Dude, you've got to understand if people question your circumstances. You sound like a teenager to me.

While I agree that everything learned is acquired knowledge a d not common sence, with the grow you say you did 10 years ago, that acquired knowledge should be common sence at this point. The newbie section can answer all your questions. I know with the description on the 10 year ago grow you may not think you need it, but the original post proves otherwise.

Actually...I had a cloning station, a veg room with 1000 w HID and a flowering room with 600 watt HPS I think. I didn't really understand all the technical details at the time. I just told my buddy in Denver what I wanted to do...he researched the prices, and I gave him the money--an investment. Then I help him set it up at my house. I was giving him 50% of profits because he was the "mechanical brains"...We grew beatiful plants for a couple cycles, but then people found out about it and I gave my system to my friend and aborted. I never understood how everything was set up...but it was pretty... I should have paid more attention...at the time I was looking for a second income. Now I'm looking for a small medical marijuana supply...I don't care about being big time...I just don't want to pay for my stuff.

Oh I know I'm a novice...but I also have a very real interest...and I've grown MJ plants before. I don't proclaim to be an expert...and I didn't realize I posted in the wrong section. I was just hoping someone could give me feedback.

Nothing wrong with not being an expert. We all start some where. What i meant about the newbie section is there are a ton of stickies. Ranging from sprout to harvest and beyond (curing). Take it in stride, have fun doing it and don't stress and love your grow to death. Right there are the biggest factors (for me anyways) to having a good grow.
You can get as fancy with hanging lights or as ghetto as you want. The key is as close as possible without burning the plants.

Thank you, I"ll keep reading. My brain is spinning from reading. I"ve read 100's of pages in books this week alone. I pretty much feel I can get started. I just need a good set up. When I can grow a crop from start to finish by myself without someone "in the know" doing all the hard work for me...I will invest in something more professional...that's the deal my wife made with me. But I have to prove I can produce a nice crop of medical MJ for my family :-)

Thank you everyone for your time. I am feeling pretty stupid. I didn't intend to bother or offend anyone in any way with this post.

Brian...

first question you need to ask yourself- are you going soil or hydro?
I'm considering soil or a very basic hydro...I found a TEK that used coconut coir and hydro nutrient solution in a simple way that sounded interesting. Ultimately I want a hydro set up...for my first grow, maybe not.

A simple DWC bubbleponics setup sounds like it would be sufficient, 2 plant in a 10 gal res top feed and a 250w air cooled MH/HPS light would work. Just get some hooks to hang from your rod in the closet on a pulley or winch with ropes, a aerobubbler with a couple airstones. Ventilation, get some ducting, a carbon filter and attach it to the light with a centrifugal exhaust fan (calculate the CF of your space to determine what size fan you need) from one end, on the other use a dust cover or panty hose to stop dust from entering your light. Intake, use a small fan for fresh air, position it at the lowest possible point at the opposite side for optimal airflow. Like i said before, find a setup that you like and modify it to suit your needs!

Thank you for your design idea. I think this would work for me actually. What I don't understand is where I put the duct work, how much I should get? Also, how am I bringing fresh air from the AC in the room and exhausting hot air out of my closet. There are no windows or vents in my closet or attic access points.

The ducting all depends on how far you need to go from your light to the door where you are going to be mounting the exhaust fan. Thinking about it, you really wont need an intake fan unless heat build up is an issue, you can just keep the sliding door cracked, or modify some type of false wall vertical with the door a little bit wider than the intake fan that you are going to use...a simple cardboard box taped together would work, or you could use fiberboard, or a thin compressed wood and paint it for aesthetics. Cut a hole in the wood and mount the fan at the bottom for the intake. The same method would apply when mounting your exhaust fan on the opposite side, assuming that you have two sliding doors?

Alright guys. I'm going with a 4' x 4' x 6.5' grow tent and a smaller veg/clone tent. I'm not going to try to do some mickey mouse grow in a sliding closet. I want all the basic equipment with places to put everything, mount, etc. I connected with some very nice people at the hydroponic grow store. Its a pretty big place and all 3 of the people I've spoken with are very knowlegable. They even have folks that can help me set it up if I can't figure it out. They actually have an example set up in the store. They recommended I come in, take notes, ask questions. Obviously they can't answer growing questions. I've grown MJ for fun as a teenager and through my 20's. I'm not afraid of that part. I have a lot of good information available with Google, plus I purchased a couple grow books. Thank you for helping me. I may have questions, but hopefully next set of questions will be more specific with pictures and stuff as I get my hands dirty.

I got a surge protected 6 outlet adopted thing, some y splitters and parts to attach cfl bulb to outlets. Put 6 40 W cfls in and duck taped it to a board. Two piles of books a couple feet apart and the board goes right on top..pretty cheap and easy, since I'm a college student I got tons of books so I can stack as high as needed lol. Also grabbed some extension cord, more y splitters and some 24W cfl's on the sides, held in place between the board and books.

you grew with a 1000 watt HID and a 600 watt HPS?? hmmm i was under the impression an HPS was an HID...correct me if im wrong

But any grower who has grown at this large of a scale would know this
