Does anyone know whether it would be worth me upgrading my 250w hps to a 400w for flowering? The light will cost £90-100 and obviously a bit more to run in electric cost a ounce is £190-200 round by me so would it be worth me buyin the 400 will i get enuff extra bud to make it worth the costs?

i would say that if you have the space for the 400watt and you are able to cool it enough to keep your temps down, then yes it will be worth it in the long run.

i have never grown with a 250. if i had bought a 250, it would be packed away in the attic and i would buy a 400. ok really i would buy a 600 but when i bought my 400's the price was cheap so i bought 4 of them. all 4 were still cheaper than a 600 but not as efficient as a 600.

there is nothing wrong with upgrading as you go either.

More light always pays for itself. You'll find a considerable improvement in bud density with a 400 over a 250. Like Smoke said, as long as you can keep things cool, go for it.

yeah, if you got the space and can control heat in about 3-4 months you'll be kicking yourself wishing you'd gotten the 600w instead of a 400w. I know i sure did.

They're right. If you get a 600 you're settup for expansion...just add more 600's. Eventually, if you stick with it, you'll end up with either 600's or 1000's. I don't know any long term growers using anything under 600.

I was thinking 600w but im growing in a dr80 so i definatly will not be able to keep temps in a decent range
Without a cooltube which is more expense atm
Do you think if i buy one to flower my bluecheese that are veggin with the 250 atm it will be worth it given the prices at the top because this is going to be my last grow for a bit because we have a little one on the way :-)

hi nat47. i think a 600 is tooo hot for a dr80, unlesss u have a huge extact fan, but they are heavy(weight and money)..
how many girls in veg do you have already?
you could suppliment the 250hps with 2x300w red spec cfl's, about 40quid each. not a lot more heat with them.no ballast, no reflector just massive bulbs on their leads.??
just a thought.
