I will be attending the rally and plan to protest not just talk to my friends, and not just because I only know two people in Michigan since I just moved here as a medical mj refugee
I think that it is important for people to make a show of force - each person that attends the rally, or writes a letter, or calls, or emails their legislators represents many people who have not taken any action at all. If we don't stand up for our rights, who will?
Most of the issues with the MI laws today are a result of the lack of legislation put into place when medical passed in 2008. It's great that it passed, but it would have been good if the state set guidelines for each city as a model or base to help them get started instead of the logistical nightmare that we find ourselves in now.
In a dream world, the legislation on the table right now would be to define the laws in ways that would HELP the patients that need the medication, not to persecute people who are attempting to legally grow/obtain their medicine. Personally, I would much rather use medical marijuana than Xanax for my anxiety, and I would rather use medical marijuana for my chronic hip & shoulder pain than naproxen, and I would MUCH rather use medical marijuana to help control my diabetes than some injectable medicine that costs $300 per month.
Regarding the "hit list", I don't feel that it is anyone else's business, especially law enforcement, if I am a legal cardholder using MJ for medical reasons. How about we target the drugs that are killing people, not the ones that make people laugh and love each other? I don't understand why HIPAA laws don't cover medical marijuana to begin with.
As far as the proposed changes to the "established doctor patient relationship" goes, I have diabetes and I only have to go to see my doctor when it's time to get blood drawn to get my A1C levels checked. Should I be forced to go to see my doctor on a more regular basis for my metformin rather than him just calling in refills when I need them? Absolutely ridiculous.
Maybe I'm just a deadhead hippie freak, but that's my opinion.
