Growing in an apartment

I am planning on growing in my apartment soon. I have a small outdoor storage room that connects from my balcony that im planning to grow in but im on the 2nd floor with people above and below me. I am worried about people smelling the plants. If i use a carbon filter will i be able to hide to smell? Or is it just too dangerous to grow here?

I grew in an apartment for a couple of years. I had people above and below me too, so I ran my exhaust into the wall behind the drywall. The carbon filter must of done its job because no one ever narc'd/robbed/extorted me. Make sure your exhaust (through the carbon filter) is a lot stronger than your intake and you shouldn't have any odor issues.

i grew in an apartment for a while with homemade carbon filters. the only time it ever reeked was during harvest/drying/curing, but it STANK.

my apartment manager lived a couple doors down and always complained about the smell during harvest time, she thought there was a skunk in the area.

i nearly almost went out and killed a skunk to plant it nearby to explain the smell. no kidding.

Lots of people grow in apartments, that being said it obviously carries risk.
So i wouldnt tell anyone, no one the more people you tell the higher your chances get and thats how most are caught.
Second would be smell as others have said have a great fan/carbon filter and i would suggested curing/drying in the same cab so that you dont have dank smell when drying :P

That way no innocent skunks are killed :/

I am currently growing in a high rise apartment, so obviously, smell is a big factor for me. I have a 6" inline fan paired with a 6"x16" Phresh Filter carbon filter. Also, I dry my plants in the tent I grow in so I am using the same carbon filter. I get virtually no smell with the Phresh Filter. The only smell I get is when I cure, but then I use Ona to hide that smell.

So, in other words, you can do it if you buy the right equipment.

grow a low odor strain, some don't smell like pot at all.
Do you have any advice on a good low odor strain? I was thinking about growing some sort of dwarfs that take 50-60 days to harvest but I am a noob at this so i really dont know whats good or bad : /.

Thanks for all the tips everyone!

I don't know any dwarfs, Northern Lights #5 is a short low odor plant, Jillybean isn't short but can be trained that way, smells like fruit, C99 is a good one too. http://www.greenlifeseeds.com/index.php/British-Columbia-Seed-Co./Northern-Lights-5
stay away from skunks (duh !) & kushes

What about the light? I think it would be much safer inside. I live around some apartments like you're talking about and you'd always have people outside... I live in an apartment and I converted a small closet and area outside it to a pretty decent veg/flower area. :) Be careful whatever you do!

There is an outlet in the room if thats what you mean by light. I assumed that growing would be worse for the smell compared to in the storage but I am considering it now. The only problem is the closet I'd use is in my room and the fan might be too loud, but I dont know how loud a carbon filter fan is.

Well I was thinking at some point there will be a lot of light in there and it will look suspicious at night.

i agree 100% here, your not going to be able to have a crazy perpetual going and hangin buds in your room but if you do your dry/curing in your tent/closet with a quality carbon filter you should be all set. if you have the money i would suggest purchasing a tent that fits in your shed, this way everything is contained

i mean no offense and im not trying to be a dink but you got alot of reading to do before you get involved in growing canabis. do your research find out exactly what your going to do and then ask question specific to the problems you rhink you might encounter. like "how loud is a 6" inline fan" "will a 6" inline fan cool my light and exaust enough to keep my grow cool"

im currently growing 3 nice sized ladies in my appt closet im on the bottom and havent attached my filter yet and im freaking out! I dont think the power much matter unless youre going to be growing large scale and it dont sound too much like it. I have a 160 cfm fan on 600w its good for veg but you'll need a nice sized fan or just go 400w. I do need to get a grow tent but even as my fan comes on it sucks all the smell out of the room into my room and the appt which means when i attach something that will purify the air i dont think smell is going to be a problem, when the fans not on though thats where i'll worry a little. if its on a balcony shed i dont think smell will also be too big of a deal. I agree with smokin heavy i get sketch because theres a bright light coming out of my closet I feel like neighbors watch and if they saw you going out into a bright room late at night they'd tip ya off.. Don't worry about the volume of a fan either i have the wal mart 20 inch floor fan its ffffing loud but A you get used to it and B whats wrong with sleeping with a fan blowing on you? ;)
