Using SS, should i still add nutes during flower? Its an outdoor grow btw....

Hey team,

i'm using SS for my outdoor grow and things look pretty awesome so far (to me they do...this is my first grow ever!), and i've been employing the "less is more" philosophy, but people are telling me to add molasses or tiger bloom, or any "bloom" enhancer during flower.

What do you guys think?

Well, don't use anything that's not 100% organic first off, cause you'll hinder your microbe life that SS is all about.Fox Farm Tiger Bloom is synthetic, only Big Bloom is organic from FF. Subcool does not recommend as far as i know, using anything, and I don't think I would, unless you see a deficientcy or something. But, if you do anything, I would only use a compost tea or something like that. SS is supposed to have enough in it to carry them through to harvest. I'm speaking from what I hear here, because I've never done SS by the book.

I have a few girls in 10-20 gal smart pots that were getting yellow and deficient after about 4-5 months of vegging, I mixed up a batch of compost tea with worm castings/guano/seaweed/botanicare grow nutes. Fed em once so far and they look 100% better, I think when sub says you do not need to add any nutes through flower he is assuming you are going to veg for 4-8 weeks toppps. I would feed with tea once a week just keep it fairly mild.

yea for sure bro, veg time definitly plays a role there. Organic teas are pretty safe to add, as long as you don't get too crazy with the guano, that stuff can get hot if overdone, I found that out the hard way haha. If you feed with teas every other day, or 3 times a week or so like I do, if you use guanos every time, it'll get to be too much. I only use the guanos about once a week now, and leave it out on the other feedings. I'm talking about my soil mix now too, as I stated earlier, I've never done SS by the book to the letter.

Super Soil as listed is designed for indoor container growing.
Outdoors you will need to be in ground or use huge containers to finish properly.

The mist utilized Super soil but once the plants were 14 feet tall they needed food.

Depends on how large the plants will be don't it :)

Id say 250 min

I use your SS in 7 gal containers outdoors under the Hawaiian sun and the plants love it! So it also depends what part of the planet your growing on!.. Photoperiod is the key here!....I can put plants out anytime of the year and they’ll flower…naturally we do all the vegging indoors.

agreed with sub 300 gallon absolute minimum. i used low profile 300 gallon containers. the one container with super soil still has plenty of juice left. leaves are dark green and i planted around 4/20. but this took 2 full batches of s.s. i think this amount of s.s would have been enough for 4 or 5 hundred gallons added to plain roots of course. my other large pots with different recipe i am feeding. preliminary plans for next year are 4 batches s.s. for each 1000 gallon container.

I'm thinking the SS would hold up fine outdoors in a 200 or 300 gallon smart pot, with just a little help from some compost tea with some kelp and fish emulsion 3-4 weeks into flower, if not sooner.
Compost tea, brewed with a little mollasses, kelp, and fish does amazing things and it's safe to use.

pics will be posted tomorrow. found a few worms on the plants today, so i spent a good hr or so going through everything and trying to pick out the worms and eggs. i hope i got them all, but either way, the plants look solid to me, but i'd like to get your guys' feedback. so far i've been watering with tap water, thats been circulating in a large tub with about 4 powerheads in it (we have a koi pond, so before we do water changes, we circulate the changing water for at least a few days before performing the change so chlorine evaps), i dont ph or anything. im just trying to complete this grow from start to finish just to know what goes into it. Next harvest i'll try to fine-tune things as i learn from you pros.

You need to get some Safer brand catterpillar killer and spray those babies good a couple times a week apart or so. It'll take care of the worms. If not you'll be out there picking them every day till they're done!

Here are some pics of the kids. I have 2 varieties: ShiskaberryxJuicyfruit from cash krop kenny (vancouverseedbank), and Purple OG Kush that were freebies from the bank itself. All started from seed in May 2011, all been outdoor in Roots Organic from their beginning to their current which are bottom half SS, and the top half Roots. There is one plant in particular that is slightly different. Instead of using half SS, i replanted in all SS, and so far they're all looking good with the plant in all SS showing most signs of flowering. Here's some pics, and i apologize if the pics arent perfect, this is one of my first posts:2011-08-25_09-41-26_872.jpg2011-08-25_09-40-33_744.jpg2011-08-25_09-40-20_242.jpg2011-08-25_09-41-42_101.jpg

BTW, which caterpillar spray would you recommend using? Keeping in mind i'll be consuming these later :)
