General qestion

hi everyone, ive had this qestion for awhile now and need to find it out' when you feed your plant/plants you add your nutes but is anything else ever added like epsom salts, hydrated lime etc..? as ive red loads of threads and someone has said that they add epsom salts once a month to help with mag and so on.
I know that stuff like superthrive and nitrozyme seaweed etract and everything else like that are added now and again but is there anything else that should be added for soil growers or hydro if you all know what i mean by this?
I would reallyt find it helpfull if there is anything you can think of that should be added no-matter what, thanks in advance scunk

Things that you add to your soil are called amendments. Epsom salts (magnesium sulphate) is good if your plants tell you they need magnesium. There are dozens of possible amendments your plants might need, depending on your soil. The key to success is to learn to read your plants; they will tell you what they need. There is no substitute for reading good material from proven growers threads on here; just beware that there is a LOT of bullshit on here too, so filter that out. Ignore the BS about molasses, Advanced Nutrients products and anything that is hyped up. It's a plant, just like all other plants and it does not need anything any differently from any other plant. Hydrated lime is good for adjusting your soils pH. If your plants get a foot tall and the bottom leaves start turning yellow, you have a Nitrogen deficiency. Add blood meal for that; it's one of the most commonly needed amendments and is the most important and least appreciated by most.

Well, people use all kinds of additives. What I add to FFOF soil is 1 cup dolomite lime and FF nute trio, that's it. (I'll be trying molasses this grow)

If you were using tap water under 200 ppm, you could get away with just base nutrients. If your using RO or distilled water I'd add cal/mag and then you would be good with just your base nutes. If you wanted to add a little more I would add a root growth nutrient, a foliage nutrient, a bud enhancing nutrient, and a finishing nutrient. There are many others including beneficial fungi, B-vitamins, etc. but you'd have to do the research on that. Hope that helps!

Oh, your good then, that's around 50 ppm so you might end up wanting to get some cal/mag to add a little more cal/mag/iron to it later on in your schedule if you start to see deficiencies. If its city water or you know their is chlorine in your water, make sure you let it sit a day or two and let it evaporate out.

Just for comparison sake: My tap(well) water is well over 1.0 EC and

instead of cal-mag i got some hydrated lime or egg shells for cal, epsom salts for mag, sulphate of iron will these work?

Too funny!! They saw me coming a few years ago; I wasted nearly $500 on their BS. It's not just the waste of money but the fact that I had to play lab technician every day. If you have to use a calculator and micro-pipet to dose your nutes, you're using the wrong stuff.
