Be sure to have some airflow on the plants, enough to make them dance a lil. That will help them become stronger, cooler and aspirate.
I like 24 hr. veg.

Good for saving electricity, not the best for maximum growth. The plants loose there "momentum" per say.

I suppose if you running a big grow op, the lighting schedule might add up to serious $$. I figure my 600W with the AC cooling and sundry lamps and fans cost me about $50/month to run. It's not a lot of money and I wouldn't care much if it were $40/month or $60/month.
I see these arguments about lighting schedules all the time with expert growers on both sides of the issue. Obviously all these schedules work pretty well and the differences in results or costs don't amount to much.

I've seen a few people try it, basically it's 12/12 with an hour in there to interupt the flower cycle. It's the most energy conscious way but probably the slowest growing way. I personally go 20/4 because I worry I'm gonna stress my plants but a lot of people are fine with 24/0

plants dont appear to be behind schedule to me as of yet.
got 12 in under 2x600 hps using magnum xxxl hoods
ive tried the 24/0, 20/4 and even 18/6 figured nothing to lose in trying this either.
also a podcast if cant be assed reading it, bear with it as it starts about a minute in.

I am never convinced by the argument 'That's how wild mj plants live so it must be the right thing to do'. It's a good starting place for an idea but until it is supported by good empirical data it's just speculation.
A wild MJ plant has a different agenda from one being grown in a closet. It's goal is not to produce ounces of delicious kickass weed, itis to stay in the game and for that it needs just one or two successful offspring. To do that it has to survive all sorts of rough conditions that it doesnt face under cultivation.
The MJ strains we grow have undergone many many generations of selective breeding. This breeding was probably done under a standard 18/6 20/4 or 24/0 regime. If offspring were chosen for, say high yield, they were chosen for high yield under one of these light schedules. Perhaps they could still do better with a different schedule. Perhaps not. Until you have good data, it's just speculation.
We grow MJ. Then we smoke it. Then we have all sorts of cool ideas. That's great but they are just pipe dreams until someone does the experiment

I was told to keep air moving in the room, but not directly on them. It was made apparent to me that if the fan is blowing directly on them, they will focus on making stronger stems to resist the wind instead of growing in height; which isn't exactly what I want. Is this not correct?

Most people have a fan blowing directly at the plants. Growing outside, the plants are subjected to wind and also move to follow the sun. They need this exercise to stimulate the growth of a strong stem and main branches. Otherwise the plant may not be able to support the weight of the buds when they develop. An oscillating fan is a popular choice but almost any breeze will shake the plants enough. The final height depends on other factors and is not affected much by this agitation.
Also, depending on the conditions in your grow space, it may be important to have airflow through the lower parts of the plants to prevent dampness and mold.
