California people get active!

Alert!

Ernst,

Two bills that harshly restrict safe access to medial marijuana have passed the California Legislature and are in danger of being signed by the Governor. I'm forwarding along a brief message from our allies at Americans for Safe Access below, which I urge you to read and act on now -- without delay.
I have warned that being led by Cannabis industry will not lead us to individual freedom.
Take time to get active on this issue.

Also remember that until we make it equal for all citizens to practice proper cannabis horticulture we will continue to lose inch by inch.

To hell with protecting Cannabis Industry. Let us fight and win for proper cannabis horticulture for all!

ummm, a link to the bills might help.

welcome back. long time no see.

There are two bills on the Governor's desk that would severely limit safe access to medical cannabis in California. Americans for Safe Access (ASA) is calling on supporters to contact Governor Jerry Brown today and ask him to veto SB 847 and AB 1300 to protect local access in our communities.

Can you take a few minutes right now to call or email Governor Brown? ASA's online action center makes it easy!

Senator Lou Correa's (D-Santa Ana) SB 847 requires that medical cannabis cooperatives and collectives be located at least 600 feet from any residential zone or use. This will force patients' associations to the outskirts of most cities -- if they can find a location at all!

Assemblymember Bob Blumenfield's (D-Van Nuys) AB 1300 explicitly authorizes cities and counties to ban cooperatives and collectives. That means access can be eliminated in some communities altogether! That is not what voters intended when they adopted Proposition 215 in 1996, calling on lawmakers "to implement a plan to provide for the safe and affordable distribution of marijuana to all patients in medical need of marijuana."

These bills passed through the legislature easily. If we do not make a good show of opposition at the Governor's office, he will sign SB 847 and AB 1300 into law. Research conducted by ASA and years of experience in implementing our state law show that sensible regulations reduce crime and complaints around cooperatives and collectives.

Tell Governor Brown we can work with lawmakers to adopt better laws than these. Please act today!

Don’t wait -- do it right now -- the bills could be signed at any minute!

California Pot Shop Laws: Gov. Brown Gives Cities The Power

#news_entries #ad_sharebox_260x60 img { padding: 0px; margin: 0px; }
The "Wild West" days of medical marijuana dispensaries are now over, courtesy of a new law signed by Governor Jerry Brown.
Bill AB 1300 (PDF), proposed by Assemblyman Bob Blumenfield of Woodland Hills, allows cities to regulate the medical marijuana dispensaries in their area. It also allows cities to file civil or criminal claims against them for violations.
Blumenfield told the Los Angeles Times, "the new law will provide a framework for stability after years of struggling with a Wild West, lawless proliferation of dispensaries across California that sometimes constitute a public nuisance or worse."
The law bridges that nebulous gap between the security needs of local jurisdictions and the state's authorization of marijuana dispensaries for medical purposes. A statement released by Assemblyman Blumenfield's office explains that before this law, local efforts to enforce zoning, permit, and other business regulations have been stymied by lawsuits from medical marijuana advocacy groups that claim state law preempts cities from monitoring and enforcing pot shops. Blumenfield states:
“Since there are virtually no legally binding state requirements on 'pot shops,' this new law is a first step towards much needed reform... It will help prevent medical marijuana abuses, preserve local control, and elevate our debate about medical marijuana.”
Opponents of the law fear that AB 1300 is just one more step toward less rights for medical marijuana users. Advocacy group California NORML asserts that the bill "does nothing to assure that patients who can't grow their own [marijuana] will have safe or convenient access to medicine in their community." A commenter on The Grow Report forum notes that there is nothing in the law that prevents cities from banning dispensaries outright, as Anaheim, California has done.
Only one lawmaker voted against the bill in the California Assembly (Tom Ammiano of San Francisco, reports the LA Weekly) and it had no opposition in the Senate. The law takes effect starting January 1, 2012.

Again I risk the FU Ernst to say that following the money is not the road to legalization.

If this doesn't make you want to volunteer to legalize proper cannabis horticulture...

Has a Do or Die ... keep the drug war funded or "fear."

Again I point out that trying to legalize by supporting "sales" and "dispensaries" is a false path.

Only when we fight for the right for all adults to grow their own will we gain any ground.

Forget the profit and sales friends! It is what keeps the drug war going.

Once anyone can have plants the "zoning" warz will fail to be effective.
