Help! Spider mites all over my buds!

First off, great name lol: Clayton Bigsby! That's one of my favorite skits. I don't really think that the no pest strip or citronella would work outdoors. One gust of wind and it's all gone. Judging from my ongoing battle with these demons, you really need to attack them directly with sprays, soaps or predators. You can go the organic, natural route (which is preferable since you will be putting this into your body at some point) or the pesticide route, but either way, these little assholes are tenacious and just when you think you've killed one, two pop up in it's place, like that evil monster thing in the first Hellboy.

Can spider mites live on buds that have been dried and cured?

I know at this point that I will not be able to kill off all these mites before harvest, so I am wondering if they will be able to still survive and feed off of the dried buds. I am worried that they will continue to spin webs around my harvested buds.

On the other hand I don't see how they could really live off of the dead and dried plant material. Will they just die off? I know I'll be smoking them but that's life I guess.

I noticed someone said liquid ladybug. How well does this product work? I've read good reviews on it. I'm suffering the same problem 2 weeks before harvest. Im looking to battle them out for the 2 weeks left then its on to another location for me. Quite a small war has began.

+1 on blasting the mites away after a mighty wash lol.

Imho if you wanna do it right from the start invest in some avid.
Had a mite problem and someone directed me to avid used it for a week or two and gone no spider mites thru out VEG and flower.
It's pricey but you use so little of it and kills all.
Avid works the best again imo!!!!!!

I've heard good things about liquid ladybug and mighty wash. If you have the means, I would probably give one or both a try and let us know how it goes. I am trying to see if my not-so-local hydro store can order the mighty wash for me but they're not sure they can get it.

I was kind of scared off about the Avid because it's a fairly nasty chemical. If nothing else works in the end I might give it a try next time around but I'd rather go a less harmful route.

No luck yet with the no pest strips frmrboi. Again I am not using them in a particularly effective manner and my infestation is already pretty advanced. I am just using one strip hung during dark phase in a roughly 11x9 room. Only been doing it for a week. Maybe it takes longer for it to work.

What's up I hear ya. I was skeptical about it 2 but in the end I had no problems.
I learned via experience I've tried them all from neem oil,to picking up dead lady bugs.
Hands down avid is the best.
Other products you use on your plants will either burn your plants or make them look nasty.
With avid I can spray the Hell out of em and not get a burn what so ever.
Look into it bro when all fails.all the money spent on unnecessary products could of got you avid and other useful items.

imo i have sprayed neem oil up to 5 weeks in flower you got a few choices get a C02 system ) or take each plant out of the room spray the fck out of them with neem oil and leave it in other room till dry takeing them out one at a time to to spray
once room is completly empty imo nvest in bleach and was floor walls lights etc once done vent it out good then l spray neem oil all over room and re vent it then place plants into room 4 days later re neem plants you should be good then

keep in mind once grow is over re bleach everything and wash your pots and everything

good practice is to make a batch of bug poison neem oil / bug b gone what ever make it in a container big enough to be able to dum complete plant into up to soil done right you shouldn;t have it hapen again bad thing about the borg ( spidermites they will stay in your room once you treated plants you need to trat entire room to rid them fckers

So if I can't rid myself of the mites, would putting the buds in vacuum sealed (Foodsaver) tuperware containers kill any that remain on the buds themselves? If I suck the air out of the jars, would they suffocate. Alternatively, I could pour CO2 gas into the jars to accomplish the same thing.

You already know.. . Mighty Wash. -->> You can use up until harvest, & don't have to worry about it smelling or effecting your buds. Just gotta make sure you dry it well.

Fan motor speed control, 25 bux or so. you can't turn it down much but anything helps, this thing is a beast.also some wet betty(or anything that breaks surface tension) in the tank helps spray at reduced speeds, hold the tank up high and the hose low.

Haha...don't worry, we all are, that's why we're here. Message boards might be one of the best inventions EVER! Right up there with pop tarts and the super soaker. Sure there are lots of disagreements and flaming, but the amount of knowledge contained and conferred on this board and many others is staggering. It's really something you couldn't get from any book. It's as though we are a team of independent scientists all conducting and sharing research, hopefully objectively.

I'm in the same boat as you guys but I'm about to chop. It's gut wrenching to see webs all over your plants but all you can really do is clean em off and make it to the last day. I think for next time I will seal up the room for a solid week with a No Pest Strip and see if that doesn't kill em off. Then a rigorous regimen of dunking in Safers Soap and End All every other day for two solid weeks followed by a weekly spray of Organicide until buds form. Hopefully at that point I'll be mite free. If I can get the Mighty Wash I'll incorporate that as well.

I'd like to try home remedy mixture of habanero pepper and garlic as well. I honestly can't see how a mite could survive a concentrated habenero pepper spray solution. God that stuff is hot! I read about a pepper that's even hotter; it's known as the ghost pepper (Bhut Jolokia). I'd like to see spider mites go up against that!

When this has happened to me i either spray the place down 2x day with diluted neem oil for a week. spray everything, wall corners etc.... it will mess up your mylar so clean it off with soap and water. OR let loose the lady bugs.... but the neem oil will kill the lady bugs, be carefull.

Yeah, I might just buy like 5000 Ladybugs and let em go in the room. Sure, there'll be some cleanup but it certainly couldn't hurt.
