First grow

So this is my first grow, I've researched a lot over the past few years just out of stoned boredom. Just kind of leeching I guess. By the way nice to meet you guys. So this is just a little girl I have started on 08/31/11. It's a Short Ryder Auto. (Yuck I know). Feminized seed. 24/0 lights at the moment.

Picture was taken with a camera phone (older one). I'll get proper pics up. Wanted to know what you guys thought of growth. This is in a 21 gallonx2 grow-maid box I made out of two rubber-maid containers I had laying around. 6 of the 52 watt CFLs? not sure now as I dont remember. the larger ones. 2700ks. for a total of 312 watts (high check my math). Lights are about 3 inches from the top foliage and will remain 3 inches as it grows or if I see light burn I will move the pot down. Watering every 2-3 days. Soil is all organic with just a handful of miracle grow(yeah I know yuck.) I live in northwest Florida. Humidity is high outside but my grow room is air conditioned. around 65% inside. Stays right around 74 degrees. I've not gotten my ph test kits and up/down adds yet but I will. I believe I can keep these plants alive in my grow area indoors threw it's short auto-flowering life, and still get a decent amount of decent bud, so no flaming

Sorry for the wall of text, just really wanted to give a feel for my grow. I'll probably turn this into a journal shortly in between plays of the Saints v Packers game. Who dat.

That baby in pic two showing the lights was taken out. It was a runty-looking reg seed I had laying around I threw in for fun.

Edit: 2 computer fans at the top and 2 at the bottom, and I've now got light traps on all 4 to keep fresh air moving in and out. Tin foil tape all in the inside. I sleep in the room with this and see no light to bother me. Top is tilted open obviously so this doesn't show proximity of lights to plants.

Also for anyone trying to make this: buy 2 and 1 top. Take one and turn the top upside down and put it on the open part of one container and silicon/glew it down. Then cut out the middle. This will make it snap securely to the other container as it acts like a lid. I found this the best most secure way. The lights I just found light sockets and wired them up and cut holes and secured them in with silicone then taped very closely to them. They're all within and inch of the fans pulling the heat out. The fans I simply just traced with a permanent marker then cut in with a soldering iron/box cutter. Siliconed them in and taped closely as before. Then just tape up the remaining inside. For the light traps I used PVC piping in an easy to find article on Google just search "Light proofing axial fans". This is a mini tutorial I'm too lazy to go into extensive detail as it's all over the net heh. I feel as if I already have.

Pretty cool! Nice to meet you too. I hope your fans are taking care of the heat? How hot is it in there? I found with my mini-fridge that tin foil reflects heat as well as light and after removing it, the temps stabilized at 84°. And that's with ONLY two 23w CFLs! (Need more, I know..)
Good luck with your girl!

Well ambient temperature outside the box stays around 70. The fans consistently blow out nice cool air it's actually surprising that close to the lights but I have them wired to a 12v supply so they're moving quiteee a bit of air. I can't strike my lighter hardly anywhere around it with it being blow out 8) I'll put my thermometer inside at plant level tomorrow and report some temps.

Edit pic without light trap threw one of the fans as it's spinning, hope this somewhat depicts the fan to light to plant distance.

I've actually been surprised by the stretching because I haven't noticed any at all. At a little over 10 days old to the touch my fingers get a sweet resiny smell already.

Edit: thinking about adding 2 more CFLs eventually strategically placed in lower areas on the grow box to get some more light down there to the lower nodes as she grows, just because I think I'll come out better and it'll help even out temps as it cools off. (there's a surprising amount of space and I doubt I ever have more than one plant in there. Two at the absolute max.) These will be bigger 100+ watt CFLs at 6500k. I hope I'm remember these numbers correctly.

perhaps 3 inches. a little less than my middle finger in length. I will. I've seen so many grow journals just die halfway or 5 weeks into flowering. I'll see this one through. Next grow tbh I'm gonna add lights like the ones in the sticky up there with like 18 CFLs and I might go ahead and build a bigger box. Also with non auto flowering beans so I can veg them as long as I please...and get a higher THC content strain for all around better bud.

do you have more than 1 plant in the same container? pic 2 of first post kind of looks like it but i cant get my comp to zoom in for some reason.

2x21 gallon bins for a total of 42 gallons, there was a little seed I tossed into the dirt initially that took 8 days to sprout and just looked all around bad so it was pulled up.

Good. I've played with putting more than 1 plant in a container just for the hell of it to see if i could get it to work decent and 2 plants in 1 container just hurts them both and you get less than if you just had one plant in the container in my experiences so far.

Yeah I kind of figured I'd be helping myself out in the long run. It'd have gotten moved to it's own pot if it had looked healthier, and I have no doubt it would've continued to grow fine, just at a slower, stunted pace. Thanks for the tips though, and the support. This is just to prove to myself I can produce some seedless buds and give myself a little confidence in the process. Come march look out for some huge medicinal budz xD

Small update, fed her a liter of water this morning, loving the reaction. The stem is also surprisingly thick already, about a quarter inch around I'd say. I moved the plant about an inch down, putting in direct air-line with an intake fan causing an ever-so-soft breeze on the plant :).

Feedback/advice? Sorry I'm anxious to hear what some more(quantity) seasoned growers think. Want to make this a juicy autoflower grow journal and hopefully seed-to-bud "tutorial" for those like me that spent a lot of time lurking these forums for a good read.

Such an Indica.
Oh yes, very nice thick green fan leaves. A preference. The leaf growth is very impressive to me.

Edit: I'm workin' on a 2 plant hydro pot I'm gonna use to clone these two to grow over the winter providing they don't turn hermie. Then perhaps a nice scrog journal.

If it shows me sex as female and i take clones then something happens perhaps stress and it turns hermie, are the clones female or hermie? Always wondered, plants are doing fine ;)

Update showing new growth, day 11 from sprout. Advice on lsting/topping/fimming/scrog in soil/etcetra would be appreciated. Not gonna water her again until tomorrow night/ monday morning. Still on 24/0 lighting.. I've heard 24/0 is better. 16/8 is better. Even 16/6 is better. So.unless someone with this strain or another indica autoflowering with pics shows me otherwise, pretty sure I'll run that throughout the grow. I want to setup a webcam on it for view I just don't know a safe way to stream it =\

Pics, sorry pic 2 is a bit blurry

I'm currently growing an auto flower (fast bud / Indica dominant) it was in 18/6 from seed until day about 30. Check out my grow, from what everyone is saying I should get a nice yield :) If I could I would have stayed in 18/6 which I recommend for you. Those 6 hours really help cool everything down.
