Landlords and grow tents.... advice needed please

I never said that the light issue was a bad thing. Maybe I am being misunderstood. I am saying it is a bad thing to use certain types of tents and claim they are "Dark Rooms" because not all tents are created completely light proof.

When advising someone on what they should do to prevent them from being noticed, it is best to give it to them in worst case scenario.

If the OP does not have a secret jardin Loud, then guess what...you just got him busted. Because most of the Hydrohut type designs are not complete light proof.

hmm thanks for the responses. In regards to putting the tent in the closet, how will i provide adequate ventilation? i cant do any sort of modification to the property, like cutting holes in walls or anything.

also, i could have my lights on 830 pm to 830 am so when the landlord comes to inspect the lights WOULD be off. But then theres the smell issue, how affective are carbon filters?
I read what I thought was a great bit of advice - buy a closet door and cut holes in it, replacing the original door as necessary. Extreme, yes - but beats re-plastering!

sounded like good advice to me.

well email....

well it comes to light leaks and tents. i think it comes down to common sense. you know i wouldnt recommend those plant killing huts aka hydro huts, but as with all tents, you have to use common sense. Common sesne meaning....if you dont want no light leaks....why would you open up a passive vent down bottom when common sense would tell you light would leak out of a passive mesh vent...regardless of color and brand of tent.

i dont use passive vents for that simple reason. before i even set up my ventilation i could look at the tent and could tell what would compromise the 'lightproofness'

i have a fan on my intake, the fan is on the inside with a filter on it. i didnt exclusively look but...there were no light leaks...especially with the filter on.

another thing that compromises lightproof is how people put their tents together. you have to be fragile with the frame and the tent, more specifically around the seems of the zippers. if you tuggin and pullin on it of course its going to reveal those pin hole leaks. that can be fixed with panda film or some other type.

I would hope someone would shut off the lights if light leaks are a problem for landlord (and any other) visits.

And my guess would be a cop aint' gonna fall for the "darkroom" BS and a zipper won't stop him from taking a look - light leak or not.

But i'm often wrong.

hydro huts? hahaha that is a whole 'nother thread.

the capability to kill my plants?
not being fully thermally insulated?
paying more for less?

choosing the hydro hut is like committing a failed suicide.

i cant fathom as to why people would pay for a hydro hut when other tents are out there for the same amount of money with MORE Features.

My tent is for my 5000 dollar birds. If I open the tent they may get disturbed or fly out and not mate. You wanna give me 2k for the unborn birds. i didnt think so im not opening it. and all that ducting is so they can breathe. they need fresh air and light like people do.

dark room is also a good one but depends on who you are and what you have around apartment. fish tank is for fish, tent is for birds pig. You could even say its simply extra closet space or just storage area. but ducting is a tough sell but not for things that breathe like animals.

im in the same boat as you man .....as much as i want to do a whole room to grow in, i cant simply because of people/landlords....ur best bet is doing a closet grow for now that way you can keep it small and simple without having tents/ducts all over the place and if your worried about heat issues ....crack open the closet door and when landlord wants to check out if the property is ok just turn everything off till he/she takes off also keep some air freshners in handing they are not the most efficient but they do serve its purpose when that time comes.....better to own your own house so then you can do whatever you please ........:joint:

nice cover up with the birds....but what if they want to hear the birds make noise????

but yea i dont have any ducting OUTSIDE of my tent.

all ducting and fans are setup in side.

sat inside a room that is sealed off..... with a window fan in the window. intaking and exhausting the air out of the room via the window!

I purchased a hydrohut before I knew about the plant killing issues. Thermal insulation wasn't a factor for my setup. Hindsight is bliss. Knowing what I know now, I wouldn't have bought one. I can' t with a good conscious recommend one to anyone. There are just much better brands as Loud has stated.

The smell issue is easily resolved with a quality carbon filter. If you shut off the light before the landlord comes...then you will be golden.

I don't know about you...but when I lived in an apartment, the landlord could come in at anytime depending on maintenance or whatever. Might want to look at your lease agreement to see what it states.

I still recommend something a bit less odd looking. Maybe some panda film in a nice closet would be less suspicious.

landlords have you give you AT LEAST 24 hour notice if not 48 hours or more!

that is plenty of time.

i had my SO time me on how long it would take me to break down the tent. try 8 mins the first time, 7 mins the second time, and 12 mins the third time.

so i guess on average of 10-15 mins to get completely broken down and tent put back into its carrying bag!

and to be honest..... i've never had a problem with a landlord before, not at all. (before i decided to jump in this wonderful hobby) I can remember for a few houses, i would dedicate a room for a 'shop' or a storage room. With my experiences, the landlord doesnt care if you use one room for storage, nor do they want to go in there, especially if it really is a storage pile!!! and if they know you have kids, they pretty much wont bother you....

Those are good points Loud. I thought I remembered on the forum somewhere that a landlord had entered someones residence for emergency maintenance or something...and saw some plants. I think water was leaking or something.

eeep i bought one of these, are these the dreaded hydrohuts you speak of? this doesnt even have a brand name!

my tent doesnt seem to be on ebay anymore, the person had like 40 in quantity i guess they sold out.

mine is similar to this minus that big hole in the side. Its similar to the sunhut i beleive.

anyways i regret i bought this thing as it costed me almost 300 dollars, and i would prefer now to have payed someone to build me a false dresser which i could grow in.

oh well very disapointing. i cant even get my tent folded back up the way it was when i was shipped to me. i was so exited when i got it iopened it and set it up. now its in my closet crumpled up and i feel like i may have damaged it. ahh well god dang it.

now see that is different.

we should also highlight the fact there is a difference between apartment landlords and house landlords.

even when i was renting apartments, i've never had trouble. however, apartment landlords tend to be more picky and more prone to walk in whenever due to the water leaks or anything. Especially the fact that apartment are ajoined at every which way! BUT they still were required by law to give you notice before they enter.....at least 24 hours

be smart, analyze situation by situation and you will make it out on top. logic never failed anything or anyone.

shit wish i had landlords like that ...my previous house i was renting the landlord didnt serve nothing nor call and they would just show up to my door ,knocked a few times then you can hear them puttin the key into the doorknob tryin to open it but DEEE DE DEEEEE i was smarter than that i changed all the locks in the house....from then on i think they were going into our house when we werent there so i dug up and did my homework and wrote a letter letting her know that it was illegal to do that ...she got all piss and said oh you dont got 30days to move out you got 14...i went off on that bitch tellin her wuts sup "you wanna do this in court fine but just to let you knoe its gonna take wayyyyy longer than the 30days i was plannin to just take off " right then n there her husband knew what i was talkin about and he agreed to my terms ....as for my new current house i got i got slumlords its ok the only thing i dont like is that the crack head all tweaker'd out husband doesnt call or nothing and just shows up out of the blue to do some repairs inside the house.....talk about my luck hah............:joint:
