Hi all...first post...and first grow on a whim....lol. Found a bag of weed that my son had hidden and forgot about when he moved out...was mostly seeds and stems left any way. Took some seeds threw em in a clay pot with some miricle grow soil and presto had 6 germinate...this was back in June. Never thought anything would grow..Told my wife they were hot pepper plants and she transplanted them into our garden on her own when the plants were bout 5 inches high.....lol. The days are gettin shorter and they started budding this week...got rid of the one male with identification help from the nice info here....will the girls make it with mature buds till the first frost in the middle of October?...only bout a month to go! Only 3 ladies in the garden now and each plant looks different for some reason.

Nice man, yea theyll bud by mid october. They probably look different because often times big dealers mix different bud, so thier probably different strains...

Sweet! Are you going to get her to pick the peppers too? lol. Its sounds like everything is going good. Have any pictures?

It could also be that when the bag weed was grown it could of got pollenated by different plants. Now that you got it down you should get some real seeds. You will prolly be 10x happier.

EEeeUuu! What's sweet about that? :-)

You forget how hard it is for a new grower to kill a prized plant. Have a heart, he's in mourning. :-(

Seen ya was from NY, whats up yankee? im in ky & ive heard all the oldtimers around here say to leave them in the ground till the first frost, it kills all the leafs, makes it easy for them when they cure, i thought to myself, yes maybe but i bet they grao a bunch too! lol, everyone graows in ky, everyone, so i hear all kinds of stuff, i would let them go till frost , but everyone oin all the sites say to look see of the color of the buds, to pick when 50/50 red, brown ect, & clear, milky, i wish my wife helped me with my garden lol hope they are great for ya!

You don't make hash or Oil out of males? Or even compost it for next year.

Just triming my girls to get their bushness down so some light could hit the buds, I was able to make 80 grams of Oil for the winter months (I never sell my shit, give it away yeah), threw in some dried males along with the female cuttings (3 pounds of cuttings).

Waste not, want not.......:joint:

The days are much shorter....and we had a few nights in the upper 30's, but my 2 gals seem to be doing well while the rest of the garden is starting to brown and shrivel. Wife looks at my gals and laments that we're not gonna get any peppers from them! I say they're budding...lets see what they do....lol!! The buds are numerous but not very large. They are white still, so not ready for pickin yet I guess. Gotta get a dryin set up ready...found a big glass jar for storage......can't wait!

Last two nights were very cold...close to freezing but don't think it reached 32 degrees.....the leaves on my smaller gal have turned purple...this began slowly before the cold weather had set in...check out my new pics in the gallery,,,should I yank her?

No, those leaves look fine to me. The purple color is genetic, that's where Blueberry got it's name. Harvest when the trichomes are opaque, or when most of the pistils have withered, to what is called red hairs.

Low temps in the fall bring out colors that you don't see indoors. Plants can take a night or 2 of frost, but not much more.

HTH

looks like we're gonna be frost free for another week or so...was thinkin of coverin em with plastic on the colder nights when it might get to 32...maybe that will extend my season

The frost will definately be here over the coming weekend. So it looks like my "pepper" plants will need to be harvested. Besides the wife started cleaning out the remnants of the vegtable garden and I'm worried she'll pull out my " pepper" plants as she thinks they're not doing anything.......lol. I keep hinting that we should wait and see, but that ain't gonna work with the killing frost on the way. Also the leaves are fallin steadily from the trees opening up my garden to the world and I'm getting more paranoid bout my gals bein seen/stolen...Thanks guys for all your help. I've posted some drying and curing questions in another section......on to the next steps.
