Are my ORGANICS working along with CHLORINE/CHLORAMINE?

I am pretty sure you can just run the water through activated charcoal to remove the chloramine. I fill my res and run it through a cheap fish tank filter for 12 hour and change the carbon every month.

Running the water thru a carbon filter for 12 hours does change the function of the filter. You can get chloramine testers at the pet store in the fish section to see if that works. I guess this function of the carbon filter depends on the res size and filter size.

Matt, I went out and bought a chlorine test kit. I used it and its not showing up any chlorine. I did some research and found

Sounds like my water doesnt have chlorine in it eh? Wasnt aware this was possible. What you think?

That is very interesting. I might contact the city water via an anon email and say you grow orchids or something. see what they say.

Looks like i interpreted the quote wrong. Effluent, meaning the stuff they get rid of. I wonder if they treat the drinking water with sodium bisulfite.

thats what I read from your post. I would bet that means your tap water has chlorine and most likely chloramines as well.

man i would just go to an aquarium shop and get the buffer and de-chloronization agents they use for high end salt water aquariums and you would be just fine. You can also pick up some other good supplements as well for difficiencies and trace elements.

molasses does the same thing, it is full of reducing sugars that bond to Cl- the same way those de-chlors do, just takes a little more time.

yea but i tested with a chlorine test kit. doesnt show up any....it also says if the total chlorine exceeds the free chlorine by 1 ppm, this shows presence of chloramine. Neither are showin up, i dont get it. I added 2 oz of molasses to my 25 gal rez to be sure...
